“We’re working on our consistency”
Willi Orbán took questions from the media at the training camp in Abu Dhabi | The defender discusses the conditions at the training camp, Marco Rose’s expectations and his bedtime reading
Willi Orbán and RBL are currently getting ready for the second half of the season at the training camp in Abu Dhabi. We spoke to the Hungarian about how it’s going at the camp, what he believes the squad can improve on and what he cannot travel without.
Willi Orban on …
… The first impressions from the training camp
- “We had a long journey but the conditions here are superb. The pitch is in fantastic condition and the hotel is also great. We have the optimal conditions here to prepare for the next ten days.”
… Marco Rose's expectations
- “We are focussing on the work and training hard. I think we have two sessions almost every day. One or two friendlies are also planned. In those games it will be about implementing what we’re working on here. You need to be present throughout the whole game and that’s why we are training now. We started working on our attacking moves yesterday and we’ll be working on our defence over the next few days.”
… The return of the Bundesliga
- “We are going at with our chests out. There has of course been a long break which is why we have to get back to our level as quickly as possible. It’s down to each individual, but that’s why we’re here and that’s why we’re working hard.”
Everyone is making a good impression
… The room for improvement
- “That is easy to answer. It’s about consistency. We have proven that we are very capable and that we have the potential but we need to pick up points more consistently across the season and play at the top level. That’s what we need to work on. We can only do that by working meticulously in training. We have to be aware of the things we haven’t done well in games in the past.
… The fitness of the team
- “Everyone is fit and is making a good impression. Thats why I think that the break has done us good and we will play at a good level both in Europe and in the league."
… Max Eberl
- “He’s made a great first impression and I think we will have a lot of joy together. He is an expert in his field and he will take us forwards in many different areas.”
Willi Orban training
… the title race
- “We’re not thinking about that right now. We have to stick to our task and that is about bringing consistency and intensity to our game. Everyone has to be at their best right now and that is what we are working on. Of course we want to win every game as a team no matter who the opponent. The first matches after the break will make for interesting games but right now we have to find our form and our intensity.”
… Timo Werner's comeback
- “We gave him a round of applause for his hard work in training yesterday. He is in the right frame of mind and his recovery is going faster that he realised. The break has done him well and he was able to put in the hard work in peace. He only had a few days when he didn’t do any work. We need him at his best and he is working hard on his comeback."

… Things he cannot travel without
- “A book about biochemistry, my supplements and my weight lifting shoes are things I cannot travel without. It’s basically the things I need to optimise my health and my performance. I still enjoy these things and it doesn’t get boring.”
… The difference between summer and winter training camps
- "There isn’t much difference. In the summer there is a bit more uncertainty because you don’t know how the season will go. A lot of teams are rebuilding. That is less the case during the winter. You have already played the first half of the season so you already know what to expect."
There is a hotel complex, a good pitch and a great weights room. We’re doing a lot of training, working on many things and doing lots of video analysis. We also have great facilities at home that we can use, even if the temperature is a bit colder. It’s always good to get some vitamin D in the sun, to spend some time in a different climate and to get to know new people and new mentalities."
