The Krostitzer brewery has been RB Leipzig's beer partner since 2010 and has supported the team on its journey from the Reggionalliga to the Bundesliga. Born on 11th May 1534
The German Purity Law was just eighteen years old when George the Bearded, Duke of Saxony granted brewing rights to the Crostewitz manor. The date is considered the foundation of the Krostitz brewery. The Ur-Krostitzer brand thus has almost half a millennium of brewing expertise to its credit and is considered one of the most traditional premium pilsner brands in Germany.
Ennobled by King of Sweden, Gustavus Adolphus
The Swedish king's portrait adorns the logo of the brewery, dating back to an incident during the devastating Thirty Years' War. Legend has it that the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf, plagued by great thirst, rode through the town of Crostitz and received a beer from the local brewmaster, which had been brewed to be especially tart because of the upcoming harvest festival. Gustav II Adolf finished the beer in one go.
He praised the drink and gave the brewer a gold ring set with a ruby to express his gratitude. Gustav II Adolf went on his way and the next day victoriously defeated the imperial troops of the Count of Tilly in the Battle of Breitenfeld. The royal portrait has since become the brand of the Krostitz brewery.
