11 RBL Players on international duty
David Raum and Timo Werner nominated for German national team | 11 RB Leipzig players representing their home countries | Overview of upcoming international fixtures
Following the away game against VfL Bochum, some of the RB Leipzig squad will be able to have a rest as the March international break is upon us. Eleven players, though, will be travelling to their respective national teams during the Bundesliga’s two-week break. Here’s an overview of all the upcoming fixtures for our internationals.
David Raum & Timo Werner (Germany)
After missing the 2022 World Cup through injury, Timo Werner has returned to the German national team. Our attacker is part of the DFB’s squad, as is left-back David Raum. As Germany are automatically qualified for EURO 2024 as hosts, they will take part in two friendlies over this international break, against Peru and Belgium.
- March 25th: Germany vs. Peru
- March 28th: Germany vs. Belgium
Emil Forsberg (Sweden)
Emil Forsberg is in top form, having recently found the net in four Bundesliga games in a row. It’s no wonder, then, that he has been called up to the Swedish national team, who have two EURO qualifiers on the cards, facing Belgium and Azerbaijan.
- March 24th: Sweden vs. Belgium
- March 27th: Sweden vs. Azerbaijan
Dani Olmo (Spain)
Following a return from injury and two cameo appearances for RBL, Dani Olmo is back in the Spain squad for their upcoming European qualifiers. That’s no problem for our head coach, Marco Rose – in his press conference ahead of the Bochum game, he said: “If you know how international breaks are on the club side, when lots of players are away with their countries, it can sometimes make total sense for a player to travel to their national team, to have some good team training and gain much-needed minutes.” Spain will face Norway and Scotland in this international break.
- March 25th: Spain vs. Norway
- March 28th: Scotland vs. Spain
Willi Orbán & Dominik Szoboszlai (Hungary)
The Hungarian national team will have two RBL players representing them, in Willi Orbán and Dominik Szoboszlai. They will first take part in a friendly against Estonia, before kicking off their EURO 2024 qualification campaign against Bulgaria. Normally there would be a third Leipzig man in the squad, but our captain and goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi remains unavailable as he recovers from his ACL injury.
- March 23rd: Hungary vs. Estonia
- March 27th: Hungary vs. Bulgaria
Joško Gvardiol (Croatia)
Despite being just 21 years old, Joško Gvardiol is already a firm fixture in the Croatian senior team. He is very likely to play every minute in their important EURO qualifiers at home to Wales and away to Turkey.
- March 25th: Croatia vs. Wales
- March 28th: Turkey vs. Croatia
Konrad Laimer (Austria)
For Konrad Laimer and his compatriots in the Austrian squad, there are also a pair of crucial qualifiers on the schedule. The team, coached by our former boss Ralf Rangnick, will surely be favourites against Azerbaijan and Estonia.
- March 24th: Austria vs. Azerbaijan
- March 27th: Austria vs. Estonia
Amadou Haidara (Mali)
Amadou Haidara and Mali were knocked out of the most recent Africa Cup of Nations in the quarterfinals. They are now well on the road to qualify for the 2024 edition of the competition. After two wins in their first two AFCON qualifiers, the Malian team now have two games against Gambia coming up.
- March 24th: Mali vs. Gambia
- March 28th: Gambia vs. Mali
Ørjan Nyland (Norway)
Our current goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland will come up against an RBL teammate, as Norway take on Spain in their first European qualifier. After that fixture the Norway team will travel to Georgia.
- March 25th: Spain vs. Norway
- March 28th: Georgia vs. Norway
Mohamed Simakan (France U21)
- March 25th: England U21 vs. France U21
- March 28th: France U21 vs. Spain U21
