Marco Rose's RBL side face off against FC Augsburg on Saturday.

"The next game is always at the forefront of our minds"

Marco Rose spoke to the media ahead of RBL’s Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg about Peter Gulásci’s return, his tactics, and leadership.

It’s time for matchday 4!

What does head coach Marco Rose make of our next opponents FC Augsburg? What did he have to say about Peter Gulácsi’s return to the team? And how is the RBL squad shaping up ahead of our home game against FCA?

Our head coach spoke about all this and more when he talked to the press this morning. We’ve compiled Marco’s most important quotes below.

Team News

  • Péter Gulácsi has been heavily involved in team training over the past few weeks and joined up with the Hungary national team over the international break. He'll be in RBL's matchday squad for the first time after his injury for the game against FC Augsburg.

  • Willi Orbán injured his knee when playing for Hungary against the Czech Republic and will be out for approximately 10 weeks.

  • Dani Olmo acquired an injury to his right knee in the international fixture vs. Georgia, meaning he will have to sit out of training for a minimum of a week and rest for the next couple of RBL games.

  • Amadou Haidara (muscle injury) and El Chadaille Bitshiabu (MCL tear) aren't available for selection yet. Doudou has been training individually recently.

  • It is unclear whether Lukas Klostermann will be available for Saturday, as he's been ill for the past couple of days.

  • Timo Schlieck is currently doing rehabilitation work at the Athlete Performance Center in Thalgau. The goalkeeper injured his knee during training.

…the tactics against FC Augsburg

  • “We’ve got to play with maturity, just like we did against Union Berlin. We need to continue playing our own brand of football, as well as think about where our strengths lie. We want to do what is required of us as a team and deal with whatever they throw at us.

It'll be intense on Saturday. There'll be a lot of challenges and both teams will fight tooth and nail. It might not be pretty, but we've got a good chance to pick up some points if we're prepared to get our hands dirty as well as bring our quality to the table.

We want to play with the confidence we picked up in the last few games."

...Peter Gulácsi’s return to the side

  • "Peter Gulacsi will be back in the squad for the first time this season tomorrow! He's trained well over the last four weeks.

It's a great feeling to have our vice-captain back. We're heading into the next few weeks feeling optimistic, even though we've got a couple of injuries to contend with."

...the competition for the goalkeeper spot

  • “Pete’s been out for over ten months, so we can’t say specifically when he’s going to start in goal again. That being said, we managed to register him in our Champions League squad. Everyone – the medical staff, the rehab department, and obviously Pete himself – has worked hard to get us into this position. He worked unbelievably hard and we’re glad that he’s close to being back in the team.

He’s still got some work to do. Janis has been reliable and has given so much to the team, so it’s clear to us that he should continue to be number one while Pete continues with his rehabilitation. We’re happy to have Pete back and that there will be some good competition to be starting goalkeeper for a long time to come.”

...Willi Orban and Dani Olmo’s injuries

  • “We’ve lost a lot of mentality and quality with Willi and Dani. Willi also has a lot of experience – he’s an important part of our team, as he’s charismatic, calm, and clear-headed. I didn’t know it was possible for him to get injured, but unfortunately it is.

Dani has developed into a leader across the board in the first few weeks of the season and really put the team on his back when he was on and off the ball. He’s someone who can make a real difference.

Obviously it’s a massive shame that both players are out, but we have a lot of depth, so we’re well-equipped for situations like this. We’ll be able to deal with these setbacks. We’ll face the situation head on, and I have a lot of faith in the boys to do exactly that.”

…Kevin Kampl's role in light of the injuries

  • "Kevko plays an important role when Willi and Dani are available, but now it's just that bit more important. To put it simply, he has a lot of experience which we're going to need following Willi's injury.

Kevko is very reliable and important for the way we play football. He's established himself as a nailed-on starter. He had a rough patch of form last season, but he continued to be important for us after that.

At the moment, he's a very important figure for the squad in general, but particularly the younger guys. Emil and Yussi are two others who can help him out in this regard, however."

...the upcoming UCL match in Bern

  • "The next game is always at the forefront of our minds and our attitude towards Tuesday's game is a result of that mentality. We'll always try to put our strongest XI out there on the pitch.

In Bern, we face the strange prospect of playing on astroturf. It might be the case that one or two of the boys actually prefer it. We've got to deal with Augsburg first, though. We can start to think about Bern on Saturday evening."
