Plus one: Peter Gulacsi extends until 2026!

Contract extension for another year | A Red Bull since summer 2015 | Two-time German Cup winner

With Pete until 2026!

Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi (34) will stay at RB Leipzig beyond the summer of 2025. Both sides agreed on an early contract extension for another year until 2026. This means that the 34-year-old will also be in the RBL squad for the next two seasons.

The Hungarian national team goalkeeper, who will take part in the 2024 European Championship in Germany with his home country in a few weeks, moved from Red Bull Salzburg to the trade fair city in the summer of 2015. Since then, our number one has played 302 competitive games for the Red Bulls. In 2022 and 2023 he won the DFB Cup with RBL.

Here’s to the next few years of success, Pete!

Sporting Director Rouven Schröder

  • “In our squad planning, clarity in the goalkeeper position was one of the central decisions that we wanted to tackle before the European Championships. We have now made this decision by extending Péter Gulácsi's contract and discussed it clearly and transparently with everyone involved.

After his comeback, Pete showed that he is still one of the best keepers in the Bundesliga and his saves made a decisive contribution to us getting into the UEFA Champions League again.

He has earned an outstanding status at RB Leipzig in recent years. With his achievements, his importance within the goalkeeping group, for the team and the club and with his closeness to our fans.

Pete has celebrated all the great successes with the club so far and has made a crucial contribution to this development. But it is just as remarkable how he has overcome some challenging moments - not least his serious knee injury.

With over 300 games under his belt, he is already a club legend.”

  • “The contract extension was my big wish. The path that the club and I have been walking together since 2015 is a very special one. I celebrated great successes with RB Leipzig, such as the DFB Cup victories and winning the Super Cup, but even in difficult times I always felt the support of the club and the people here. These moments were extraordinary. My goal is to continue our shared success story with our great fans behind us.

I still have a few really good years left in me and still have a lot to do here. We also saw last year what potential there is in this team with this coaching staff and in this club as a whole. I'm already really looking forward to the new season and everything that's to come.

My wife, my children and I also feel very, very comfortable in Leipzig. The city and the region have grown very dear to our hearts and have become our second home. It was not just mine, but my entire family's wish to stay here. For me, the contract extension is not only a sporting decision, but also a heartfelt decision.

I am very pleased to continue working with Frederik Gößling. Freddy and I are a very good, ambitious and well-coordinated team. This is also what makes the overall very good environment at RB Leipzig for me and offers the conditions to deliver the best possible performance.”

Over 300 games for RBL

From the 2. Bundesliga to the Champions League

  • Peter Gulacsi has been in the RB Leipzig squad since July 1, 2015. The then number two impressed after the injury to regular goalkeeper Fabio Coltorti and moved permanently between the Red Bulls' posts for the second half of the 2015/16 series. Together we managed to get promoted to the Bundesliga in his first year.

Pete quickly established himself as a top keeper. The journey also continued at international level and led to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in August 2020.

First the DFB Cup victory, then a torn cruciate ligament

  • The first title with RB Leipzig followed in the summer of 2022. In the 4-2 win on penalties in the DFB Cup final against SC Freiburg, our co-captain showed a strong performance and was one of our reasons for success with the big cup.

A very bitter blow then occurred in the autumn of the same year. In the Champions League game against Celtic Glasgow, Hungary's Footballer of the Year in 2018 and 2019 tore his cruciate ligament and was out for almost a year. Among other things, he had to watch the title defense in the 2023 DFB Cup (2-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt) as a spectator.

After 357 days, Pete celebrated his comeback in the first round of the 2023/24 DFB Cup (3-2 win at SV Wehen Wiesbaden).

Back to old strength, member of the 300 club

  • The Hungarian initially had to line up behind Janis Blaswich, but coach Marco Rose decided to make a change to the goalkeeper position in February. With increasing match practice, Pete found his way back to his old strength and with him we didn't lose a single game in the Bundesliga until the end of the season.

Highlight: On matchday 31, he played his 300th game for RB Leipzig in the 4-1 win in the game against Borussia Dortmund. Only Willi Orban (310), Emil Forsberg (325) and Yussuf Poulsen (396) have more appearances in the red-white history.
