Lois Openda celebrates goal after goal this season

Golden Shoe: Lois Openda in the Top 10

RBL striker finishes season in fifth place| Benjamin Sesko is also one of Europe’s best goalscorers

Rien ne va plus – nothing works anymore!

The 2023/24 season in the top European leagues has ended, the respective champions have been crowned and the best goal scorers have finished their hunt. Since the 1967/1968 season, the top goalscorers in European football have been awarded the "Golden Shoe" award. The trophy was initially awarded by UEFA, but since 1997 the prize has been awarded by the Association of "European Sports Magazines" (ESM).

Lois Openda (28 goals), RB Leipzig's top scorer, has also joined the list of Europe's top scorers and has caught up with the really big names. Benjamin Sesko also moved up a few places thanks to his goal on the last matchday against Eintracht Frankfurt.

How is the ranking calculated? Where did our Red Bulls rank? Who has won the title most often? We answer the most important questions for you.

The Calculation Model

  • In the “Golden Shoe” ranking, the top scorers of all European leagues are summarized in one table.

Goals scored by players from the top five leagues in the UEFA five-year rankings are multiplied by a factor of 2. Goals scored by players from leagues 6 to 22 are multiplied by a factor of 1.5. Players from all other leagues do not receive a bonus. This is to make performances as comparable as possible.

Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda are among the best strikers in the top European leagues.
