RB Leipzig secure a point against FC Bayern

RB Leipzig draw 1-1 with FC Bayern on matchday 16 as the Bundesliga returns | Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scores first-half opener for league leaders | Marcel Halstenberg equalises after the break

RB Leipzig picked up a point on Bundesliga matchday 16 after a 1-1 draw with FC Bayern Munich. Marcel Halstenberg’s goal meant there was nothing to separate Marco Rose’s side and the German record champions.

Emil Forsberg had Leipzig’s first chance but couldn’t beat new Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer (22’). At the other end, Leon Goretzka’s header was ruled out after Matthijs de Ligt was ruled offside in the buildup (30’).

Shortly after, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting turned home Serge Gnabry’s cross to open the scoring for the visitors (37’) and give his side a half-time lead.

The Red Bulls started the second half well and Halstenberg poked home Dominik Szoboszlai’s header inside the six-yard box after some good work from André Silva (52’). After a balanced and intense second half, there was nothing to split the two sides who were made to deal with a 1-1 draw.
