RB Leipzig picked up a point on Bundesliga matchday 16 after a 1-1 draw with FC Bayern Munich. Marcel Halstenberg’s goal meant there was nothing to separate Marco Rose’s side and the German record champions.
Emil Forsberg had Leipzig’s first chance but couldn’t beat new Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer (22’). At the other end, Leon Goretzka’s header was ruled out after Matthijs de Ligt was ruled offside in the buildup (30’).
Shortly after, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting turned home Serge Gnabry’s cross to open the scoring for the visitors (37’) and give his side a half-time lead.
The Red Bulls started the second half well and Halstenberg poked home Dominik Szoboszlai’s header inside the six-yard box after some good work from André Silva (52’). After a balanced and intense second half, there was nothing to split the two sides who were made to deal with a 1-1 draw.

First half highlights:
Underway in the Red Bull Arena. Let's go, boys!
RBL have started well and are pressing high.
Gnabry shoots from within the area and Gvardiol slides to block. The ball deflects onto the post and bounces back out.
Forsberg has the ball on the area and opts to pass to Sivla rather than shoot. Unfortunately the forward loses possession under heavy pressure.
It’s been a very even start to the game, with a lot of the play concentrated in the middle of the pitch.
Forsberg with RBL’s first shot. He strikes from outside the area but Yann Sommer makes no mistake.
Another effort from Leipzig, but Olmo’s shot is off target.
Bayern score but the flag is up. A ball is sent into the area and Pavard centres it from the byline on the right. Choupo-Moting pushes it to the far post and Goretzka heads home. Luckily for RBL, de Ligt was offside for the initial ball and it won’t count.
37th minute, goal for Bayern:
The ball is in the net again and this time it will stand. Gnabry delivers a dangerous ball into the area, where Choupo-Moting dives forward to finish. Blaswich is able to get a hand to it but can’t stop it from going in. 0-1.
The ball falls to Forsberg on the edge of the penalty area and he shoots, but he puts it comfortably over the bar.
We’re halfway through the action at the Red Bull Arena and the visitors lead by a goal after an even half. It’s far from over!

52nd minute, GOAL for RB Leipzig:
There’s the equaliser! Silva plays a cross from the right, Szoboszlai heads it towards goal and Halstenberg reacts quickest to finish from close range. 1-1!
Olmo has a shot from the edge of the box but Sommer is there to stop it.
Timo Werner is ready to be subbed on for his comeback as Forsberg leaves the pitch.
Upamecano fouls Szoboszlai, who would have been through on goal otherwise. He’s fortunate to only be shown a yellow because de Ligt ensures that he wasn’t the last man back.
An important clearance from Simakan, who intercepts a cross meant for two Bayern players waiting behind him.
Rose brings on fresh legs for the closing minutes as Klostermann and Haidara are subbed on.
Silva sends Werner through to the touchline but he’s unable to place his shot on target.
De Ligt gets on the end of a free kick but Blaswich is on hand to scoop up his header.
90+2nd minute +2:
Laimer has a late chance to net the winner but sends his shot over the bar.
It’s all over in Leipzig as we draw 1-1 against Bayern on our return to Bundesliga action.
