"We want to carry on like that!"

Goalscorer Dominik Szoboszlai, Benjamin Henrichs, Xaver Schlager and head coach Marco Rose speak to the media after the 2-1 win over Stuttgart.

Everything on the 2-1 win over Stuttgart

Marco Rose:

  • "It was a hard-fought win. Stuttgart have a really talented team and a good tactical plan. We didn’t start the game really well, but we performed well after taking the lead for the rest of the first half. After a really poor moment to start the second half we played well. The penalty opened the game up and both teams were fighting hard. We’re happy with the three points. Stuttgart demanded everything from us; this is the Bundesliga and every game is difficult. We wanted to extend our unbeaten run to 16 and that’s what we managed to do. We’re doing well at the moment, so compliments to my team."

Dominik Szoboszlai:

  • "My goal was just to help the team today, whether with goals or assists. I have David Raum to thank for my free kick goal. He told me that I should shoot in a way that makes the ball dip just in front of the keeper. That’s what I did and it worked out well.

We’re focused on ourselves and we’re looking ahead. We want to carry on as we have been doing."

Benjamin Henrichs:

  • "It feels good. We’re in good form and haven’t lost in a while. It’s important that we won a game like today, which was a tricky fixture. Stuttgart did well and defended well. Sometimes you need a goal from a free kick like the one Domi scored to help you win a game like this. He always seems to score twice against them. Hopefully he can do the same in the upcoming games.

I’m working hard and I want to make is as hard as possible for the coach when picking the team. A team thrives off competition for places and everyone works hard for each other here. We’ll definitely carry on like that. When you’re on top, you want to stay there."

Xaver Schlager:

  • "A win is a win – that’s the most important thing. It was a difficult game and VfB did really well. Our defensive engagement was good but not everything worked well. That was also down to the opposition because they played well. Stuttgart put us under pressure and it was hard to avoid conceding the second goal. But that speaks for the mentality of our team.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s goals are important. They were brilliant goals; everyone can see that. We also take more note of how hard he works off the ball, how he positions himself and how he presses on the pitch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an attacking midfielder who is so good defensively."
