New squad numbers at RB Leipzig
Dani Olmo and André Silva have changed their squad numbers | New signings Blaswich and Schlager have chosen theirs
New season, new squad numbers. Two players have changed their numbers ahead of 2022/23, whilst our new signings, Janis Blaswich and Xaver Schlager have chosen theirs.
Read on for an overview of the changes and who previously wore those numbers.

Dani Olmo will wear the number 7. He previously had this number at his old club, Dinamo Zagreb, and had a spell with it for Spain.
Marcel Sabitzer was the last player to wear number 7, having worn it for throughout his whole time at the club (2015/16 – 2021/22). The other players to have had that number were Matthias Morys (2014/15), Timo Rost (2010/11 - 2011/12) and Christian Streit (2009/10).

André Silva will also change his number for the 2022/23 season. After being number 33 in his first campaign, he will now wear the number 19, which he wore for one season with FC Porto. For Portugal, however, Silva has used the classic striker’s number 9 for a number of years now.
Seven players have previously been number 19 at RB Leipzig: Alexander Sörloth (2020/21), Hannes Wolf (2019/20), Oliver Burke (2016/17 - 2017/18), Zsolt Kalmár (2014/15 - 2015/16), Matthias Morys (2012/13 - 2013/14), Tom Geißler (2010/11 - 2011/12) and Robert Scannewin (2009/10).

New signing Janis Blaswich will wear the number 21. The goalkeeper had that shirt number back during his time with Borussia Mönchengladbach.
There have also been seven players to previously wear the number 21. Blaswich will be the second goalkeeper after Marius Müller (2016/17 and 2018/19). The other players were Brian Brobbey (2021/22), Justin Kluivert (2020/21), Patrik Schick (2019/20), Mikko Sumusalo (2013/14 - 2014/15), Paul Schinke (2010/11 - 2012/13) and Toni Jurascheck (2009/10).

Xaver Schlager has chosen the number 24, which he also had at VfL Wolfsburg. Instead of his surname, the Austrian will have Xaver on the back of his shirt.
The number 24 had been vacant at RB Leipzig for four years since club legend Dominik Kaiser departed. The long-serving captain wore number 24 from 2012/13 until 2017/18. Before him it was Matthias Buszkowiak’s number (2010/11 - 2011/12).
