An interview with Marco Rose

MARCO ROSE on ...

… his work with the squad:

“Intensity is my key word and we want to stand for that at RB Leipzig. We want to work intensively and play football intensively; both with and without the ball. It’s essential that we do tackle that together and train hard to make those things second nature.

I’m convinced that you get results by the way that you play, by the way you perform and by the way that you take the game by the scruff of its neck. We want to earn our wins!”

… his work-life balance:

“Being here in my home city, it’s worthwhile going home to spend time with my friends and family, but I can sometimes just switch off. I often take it upon myself to that frequently and it always works. Nevertheless there are also days when you work on certain things at home, you reflect and develop certain ideas, which you simply can’t get out of your head...

… what he does in his free-time:

“During my break from management, I started playing golf! As part of a team, you are inherently ambitious and you have to find the right way to just really switch off for a while. During golf, you concentrate on what is in front of you, on striking the ball cleanly. At the start, doing that successfully is not very easy. You must have a high tolerance for frustration and keep trying. When that ball goes flying, it’s so unbelievably fun!”

… the atmosphere during the home game against Dortmund:

“You could see clearly during that game against Dortmund that we have a great community. The boys played their part of the pitch, the fans brought the atmosphere and carried us a bit! It has to be our goal to be a force to be reckoned with at home and to bring that atmosphere from the stands onto the pitch. We have to be a great team on both the pitch as well as in the stands!”
