RB Leipzig lose 4-1 to FC Bayern
RB Leipzig defeated by FC Bayern | Robert Lewandowski (11'), Jamal Musiala (47'), Leroy Sane (54') and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting (90'+2) with goals for Bayern | Konrad Laimer on scoresheet for RBL (58') | 34,000 fans in the Red Bull Arena
A result to forget. Despite the roudng support of 34,000 fans in the Red Bull Arena and the return of Angeliño and Dani Olmo to the starting line-up, the Red Bulls were beaten 4-1 by FC Bayern. For a long time, the game was very open and even, but the reigning champions were clinical in front of goal and exploited any lapses in concentration in the defence.
Right from the start, RB Leipzig showed some promising signs going forward, but rarely managed to create dangerous goal-scoring opportunities - and were often denied by Manuel Neuer. It was a similar situation at the other end of the field, but Bayern were helped by an early penalty after a handball by Kevin Kampl. Robert Lewandowski converted the spot kick to give his side an early lead (11’). Leipzig were unable to reward their efforts during their period of momentum in the closing phases of the first half and went into the break a goal behind.
The second half started in the worst possible way. Jamal Musiala left Péter Gulácsi with no chance finished across goal into the far corner to double the lead (47’). RBL reacted well and hit the back of the net through Andre Silva, but the goal was ruled out because of an offside call. The decision was made even tougher to take when Bayern took advantage of space behind the backline to net their third goal almost straight after through through Leroy Sané (54’). Konrad Laimer's incredible goal in the 58th minute reduced the deficit, but the substitute Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting put the icing on the cake to make it 4-1 (90’+2).
