RB Leipzig suffer 2-0 defeat to Arminia Bielefeld
Janni Serra (57’) and Masaya Okugawa (75’) score for Bielefeld, Fabian Klos (70’) sees red.
RB Leipzig lost 2-0 to DSC Arminia Bielefeld on Matchday 17. While Emil Forsberg was forced off early on through injury (7’), Amadou Haidara made his return (65’). RB Leipzig now occupy ninth place with 22 points.
As expected, the visitors were an uncomfortable side to play against. Their consistent defending made it hard for the Red Bulls in the final third, and despite much more possession and more shots on goal, Tedesco’s side went in to the break with the scores at 0-0.
Leipzig enjoyed the better start to the second half but were plagued by the same issues as before the break, lacking precision in the opposition third. After a misplaced pass in midfield, Leipzig fell behind after Serra finished a rebound via the post (57’). Fabian Klos saw a straight red card soon after after a poor tackle on Willi Orban (70’). With RBL now a man up, Christopher Nkunku had a big chance but was denied by Bielefeld goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino (72’). Okugawa doubled the visitors’ lead quickly after winning possession (75’). Despite a few more half chances, Leipzig were unable to find the back of the net and fell to a 2-0 defeat in their final game of the year.
