Timo Werner, David Raum, Benjamin Henrichs and Lukas Klostermann (Germany)

Timo Werner and David Raum have been named in Hansi Flick’s squad once again, and Lukas Klostermann is back in the squad and could potentially make his 22nd, 23rd and 24th international appearances. Benjamin Henrichs has also been brought back into the squad for Germany’s three international friendlies; as hosts of the 2024 EUROs, they do not need to participate in qualifiers. Timo Werner (persistent ankle problems) and Lukas Klostermann (thigh injury) have have been forced to leave the suqad.

Germany 3-3 Ukraine

In the 1000th international match for the Germany national side, the significance of the game was the main focus and the result was of secondary importance. Germany showed both good moves going forward and calamitous errors in defence. David Raum was on the pitch until the 71st minute and set up a good chance for Niclas Füllkrug with a cross shortly before the break. RBL’s full-back also had an effort himself, but from too tight an angle (11’).

At half-time, the national coach brought on Lukas Klostermann, whose pace would bring more stability into the unstable back line. For the last 20 minutes, Benjamin Henrichs was brought on for Germany, playing for the first time in over a year. The game ended in a 3-3 draw with a lot of room for improvement for the national team. Timo Werner is not yet at 100 percent and was rested for the match.

Poland 0-1 Germany

With 12 months to go until the European Championship in Germany, Flick’s men put in a decent performance against Poland, but ultimately fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat.

The four-time World Cup winners played cautiously in the first half and didn’t put the Polish backline under too much pressure. The hosts scored the winner through Jakub Kiwor in the 31st minute.

Benny Henrichs got 70 minutes under his belt and set up a chance for Kai Havertz in the 61st minute after impressively winning the ball back. David Raum didn’t feature.

Germany 0-2 Colombia

Germany also failed to come away with a positive result in their final friendly before the summer break. Colombia had the better of the first half, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen to thank for a 0-0 scoreline at the break. Benjamin Henrichs came on to play the second 45 minutes.

In the 54th minute, the guests took a deserved lead through a Luis Diaz header. A sustained period of Germany pressure didn’t result in a goal, with a handball from Joshua Kimmich resulting in a late penalty, which was put away by Juan Cuadrado to make the final score 2-0 (82’).
