RB Leipzig were held to a 2-2 draw by 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday, their fifth tie in the last six Bundesliga games. We heard the thoughts of head coach Marco Rose and his players after the match.
Marco Rose
"The start certainly didn't help us - a second ball following a set piece and then the penalty situation, where we didn't have good movement in the defensive line. We didn't put them under enough pressure in possession in general in the opening stages. After another counter-attack where we looked in trouble, I had to step in and make changes to the attacking setup we had gone into the game with.
We were better after those changes and got a goal back before the break, which of course gave us belief. We applied pressure well from the off in the second half, created chances and got our equaliser. We've ultimately come away with what's a disappointing draw from our perspective, even though Heidenheim played well.
Even in this difficult period, I still believe in the team and will now try and find solutions for us to beat Wolfsburg and progress to the semi-finals of the cup."
Péter Gulácsi
"We made life difficult for ourselves. You know it's not going to be easy when you're 2-0 down against Heidenheim. They shut up shop and defended incredibly deep, and that made it tricky. It shouldn't have come to that in the first place. We weren't awake enough at the start.
The second half was better and we got back into the game. We had half an hour to score the third goal but didn’t manage it, despite being the only team that looked like scoring. A point isn't enough for us. It's a disappointing day.
We play teams around us in the table over the coming weeks. It doesn't matter where we are right now. The most important thing is winning those games and getting more points on the board."
Willi Orbán
"It simply isn't enough. We didn't have a good first half at all. The positive is that we managed to dust ourselves down and come back from 2-0 down. We were better in the second half, put them under more pressure and worked some chances. We deserved to get our equaliser, but we weren't accurate enough in the final half an hour and didn't carry enough of a threat. I expected more from us, particularly in the last 20 minutes or so.
We won't lose our heads, but we know that a point today isn't good enough for us."
Loïs Openda
"Of course, I’m happy to have helped the team with a goal, but it isn't the result we were after. Our goal is of course to get into the Champions League again, and a draw today isn't good enough. However, there are still plenty of games to go and we simply have to keep on fighting.
We managed to create chances more in the second half and got back level, but it wasn't enough for the win. Now we have an important cup quarter-final on Wednesday against Wolfsburg, and we have a score to settle with them thinking back to our last meeting."
