No way through against Gladbach.
We heard from RB Leipzig head coach Marco Rose and his players after the Red Bulls drew 0-0 with Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday night.
Marco Rose:
"We would have liked to come away with the win today, but Borussia Mönchengladbach are a good side. We were missing intensity and the right mindset in our two recent defeats, so I was hoping to see a different performance today, and I did. We keep coming up against different obstacles at the moment. The first half was a little clunky, but we were very strong after the break. We just weren't precise enough in the final third. We played a lot of crosses, but they lacked accuracy. I can live with a point because the team delivered what I asked of them in the last few days."
Peter Gulacsi:
"We didn't start the game particularly well. You saw the quality that Mönchengladbach can produce. They're very dangerous on the counter and we had to deal with that in the first half because of the mistakes we made in possession. We played with much more intensity in the second half; we were dominant and that's more like what we expect of ourselves. We were just missing the goal."
Christoph Baumgartner:
"I think you could see that we were still a little affected by the recent defeats at the start of the game. It was a dominant display in the second half though. There was only one team pushing for a goal. We had a couple of decent chances, and I really ought to have put mine away, then we take home the three points. We weren't incisive enough in the end, which is the one frustrating aspect of today."
Kevin Kampl:
"We knew before the game that it would be tough. After the two defeats recently, we were determined to win, but we were a little sloppy in the final third at times. That played into Gladbach's hands and allowed them to counter us. We were better in the second half, much better than in the recent games. Unfortunately, we were just missing that little bit of luck. I can't criticise the team today. We need to make sure that we come back from the international break ready to give it our all."
Yussuf Poulsen:
"I thought the performance was a good reaction to the Celtic defeat. Everyone threw everything they had at it, and we had Gladbach pegged back inside their own box in the second half. We were just missing that one crucial moment in the end. It would have been good to come away with the win today, but we needed to show more quality in the final third to do that. Gladbach defended well and were very compact. Perhaps we needed a couple more bodies inside the box when we were putting the ball in there."
