His Recovery, the Euro, and a New Haircut: Xaver Schlager in Interview

Xaver Schlager is back!

The 26 year-old has been doing physical rehabilitation sessions since he suffered an ACL tear against TSG Hoffenheim in the away match in May. The Austrian however oozed of great energy during the interview, feeling positive about his comeback.

Fokus aufs Comeback: Xaver Schlager im Trainingszentrum der Roten Bullen.

How are you doing, what is the current situation?

  • "I'm doing very well mentally. I'm focussed, I know what to do, and my knee is feeling much better. Where I currently stand is harder to explain, but I'm on the right track, heading in the right direction."

Surely it wasn't easy for you to get injured so shortly before the EURO. How did you follow the tournament?

  • "I was at the Red Bull Arena for the Round of 16 match between Austria and Turkey to watch the game in person. I've followed the rest of the matches from home. At the beginning it wasn't easy for me, but the joy only grew game after game. There were plenty of cool matches. It was really fun to watch them.

Of course, I would have been happy to take part. But it was still nice to be able to experience the matches without the pressure.“

We know you're considered a bit of a book worm. How many books have you read these past months?

  • "Being perfectly honest, not that many. In spite of my injury I didn't really have that much time available. I used the past weeks to meet people and spend some time with my family. I also have a hotel project in the works in my hometown that I want to push on. So, it really wasn't boring.“

How Xaver Schlager did after Austria's exit at the EURO 2024, what was his impression of the new away jersey, and why it was time to get a new haircut, as well as plenty of other things, available for you in the video interview with our number 24.
