Maarten Vandevoordt: "I'm Looking Forward to Working Hard Together"

RBL's new goalkeeper discusses his first impressions of his new footballing home

Maarten Vandevoordt has been a Red Bull since joining in the beginning of July. The 22 year-old, who prefers a more authentic and oversized look when it comes to his fashion, came to Leipzig from Belgian First Division side KRC Genk. In the meantime, he has settled into his new apartment and fulfilled his first week of training at RB Leipzig's Training Center at Cottaweg.

He's given us a glimpse into how things have been going.

Plenty of hard work!

Maarten Vandevoordt on...

... his start at RB Leipzig

  • "The first days have gone by wonderfully. I received a warm welcome from everyone and made to feel part of the team immediately. Everybody is pretty open and up for a conversation. The Training Center is fantastic. It's been fun and I'm looking forward to what's yet to come."

... the goalkeeping team with Peter Gulacsi

  • "Pete is an amazing and experienced goalkeeper. There's plenty I can learn from him, maybe he can pick up a thing or two from me as well. We'll be working hard together to improve. I'm looking forward to his return from his well-deserved vacation after the EURO 2024 and get to train together at the training ground."

Maarten Vandevoordt on...

... his sporting role models

  • "We used to have and still have plenty of good goalkeepers in Belgium. But my idol is Manuel Neuer. His influence on goalkeeping over the past 10, 15 years is impressive. There's a lot to learn from him. To play at his level for as long as he has is inspiring."

... his goals

  • "I want to give the best of me every day and improve constantly both on and off the pitch. That's why I believe I'm in the right place. At the moment, what matters the most to me is to internalize everything and get to know my teammates better. The rest will begin to fall into place on its own."
