International duty | All the games and call-ups for RBL players
Everything you need to know about RB Leipzig’s players called up for the September international break
Important EURO qualifiers, high-quality friendly matches!
Here's how our boys got on during the international break:
- Benjamin Henrichs was a force to be reckoned with at left-back for Germany in their 2-1 victory over France. Our defender provided the assist which led to the opening goal scored by Thomas Müller in the fourth minute. Benny also played a pivotal role in the second half, giving Germany real impetus with his strong performance on the left wing. Leroy Sané doubled the lead in the final minutes of the game after good work from Jonathan Tah and Kai Havertz (87').
The game was nevertheless nail-biting until the final whistle, as Antoine Griezmann brought the French side back into contention with a penalty in the 89th minute. The DFB-Team, under the leadership of interim coach Rudi Völler following Hansi Flick's sacking, held out though to secure a much needed home victory at Dortmund's Westfalenstadion.
- Lois Openda came on for captain and double goalscorer Romelu Lukaku in the 61st minute of Belgium's 5-0 victory over Estonia - the three points earned the "Red Devils" a joint spot at the top of the Group F table alongside Austria. Both teams are now sitting on 13 points, seven more than third-placed Sweden, meaning that EURO qualification is very much on the cards.
- Emil Forsberg and the "Tre Konor" were defeated 3-1 by a strong Austrian team, including RBL players Xaver Schlager, Nicolas Seiwald and Christoph Baumgartner. Michael Gregoritsch's header (53') and Marco Arnautovic's brace (56', 69') put Ralf Rangnick's side on course for victory in the second-half, with Emil Holm's consolation goal for Sweden in the 90th minute doing nothing to change the result.
- After scoring in a crucial 2-1 win in the EURO Qualifier against Austria, RBL captain Willi Orban started once again for Hungary, as their friendly with the Czech Republic ended 1-1. Hungary head coach Marco Rossi picked Peter Gulacsi in the squad for both games, but it was still to early for him to start following his injury.
- Yussi Poulsen came on in the second half of the game against Finland and helped his country get over the line, as Denmark won the EURO qualifier 1-0. This result means that the Danes are level on 13 points with Slovenia at the top of group H, with Finland and Kazakhstan hot on their heels.
- Xavi Simons helped the Netherlands to gain some ground on Greece (nine points) and France (twelve points) in their EURO qualifying group. Now on nine points, the Dutch are right back in the running to secure their ticket for Euro 2024 and Xavi started both the 3-0 win over Greece and the 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland.
- Dani Olmo put Spain 3-0 up in their game against Georgia. He was forced off early in the 7-1 win, however, after he sustained an injury to his right knee during the game.
- After scoring a goal and registering two assists in Slovenia's 4-2 win against Northern Ireland, Benjamin Sesko watched Slovenia's 4-0 win over San Marino from the bench.
- Ilaix Moriba came on for the second half against Malawi and assisted Guinea's equaliser.
- Castello Jr. and the France U21 side won 4-1 against Denmark U21 and 4-0 against Slovenia U21.
