Coach Marco Rose was proud of his team after the strong performance.

MARCO ROSE

  • “Congratulations to Real Madrid on reaching the next round. It was a great game for my team, I'm very proud of my boys. We are of course disappointed about the elimination and how it came about because we were very close.

In both games we showed that we believed. We were confident in ourselves and acted accordingly. Unfortunately we couldn't find a goal in the end.”

Goalscorer Willi Orban spoke after the game.

WILLI ORBAN

  • “The performance was good in both games, we could have got the better result. We had so many opportunities again today that we simply should have taken. There were some moments in both games that didn't go our way, but we have to take a look at ourselves. When I conceded the goal, I tried to show him to the outside, but then the inside lane was free. Vinicius Jr. is a world-class player and he does it well.

Now it's time to focus on the Bundesliga. We have to make sure we win against Darmstadt on Saturday. We used a lot of energy today and will now need to recover well. And then we want to get the three points at home.”

Benny Henrichs struggled with RBL's missed opportunities.

BENJAMIN HENRICHS

  • “If you look at the 180 minutes, then we had significantly better chances than Real. I don't really know how they got their goal again today. We played a great first half. We controlled the ball and Madrid chased a lot. I don't know the last time the Real Madrid fans whistled at halftime at home.

But we just have to take our chances, the same in the first leg. With the many chances we had to score, we simply can't let them go. We should have progressed.

We can take a lot from the two games, but right now it's brutally disappointing. We were close and saw that we could definitely keep up.”

Xaver Schlager also commented after the game.

XAVER SCHLAGER

  • “We played a good game and had a lot of chances, our balance between risk and safety was good. But in the end we didn't score the goals. We didn't defend Madrid's one attack well. Otherwise we can't blame ourselves much. The 1-1 score feels strange, it was similar to the first leg.

We feel good that we played a good game away from home. The Real fans even whistled. In a few years it might be a nice experience.”
