Despite creating a large number of chances. RB Leipzig were made to do with a 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgart in their Bundesliga 2022/23 season opener. Head coach Domenico Tedesco, Benjamin Henrichs and David Raum reacted to the game.
Match report: RB Leipzig draw 1-1 in Stuttgart
"We didn’t convert our chances but a lot of that was down to their goalkeeper. VfB also blocked well and we have to live with that. We did well in the first half, circulated the ball well and created good chances in and around the goal. We got the opening goal and we should have scored the second. Then, in the worst case, you go into half time with a 2-1 lead. We conceded the equaliser with what was their first shot on target. The aim is always to play good over 90 minutes but there is always an opponent who keeps up with you. VfB have a really good team. We were almost perfect over the 90 minutes, apart from the goal we conceded."
"We started the game really well and didn’t want to allow the fans to influence the game. We controlled the play in the second half and were creating chances. When you create so many chances on the road here, you have to put them away. Stuttgart had one shot on goal and scored it. We managed to control their counter attacks better in the second half and dominated. If we put away our chances today, we’d have won the game. Florian Müller obviously had a great game. My teammates have taken me in really well; the players here are world class. It’s really fun playing alongside them."
"We weren’t efficient enough; we had a lot of chances today. It felt like Stuttgart only had one shot and we weren’t good enough in defence and then it’s 1-1. It feels like a defeat. We did well up until the first cooling break and Stuttgart hardly managed to get in behind or have any real influence on the game. After the break we let up a little bit and they got the equaliser."
