RBL reach quarterfinals after 3-1 win over Hoffenheim

RBL’s title defence continued as they defeated TSG Hoffenheim 3-1 in the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal.
Marco Rose’s side enjoyed the better start to the game and were through an early goal, when Emil Forsberg found the back of the net via the post from the edge of the area (8’) to give his side the lead.
The Red Bulls continued to dominate the play and Konrad Laimer doubled the lead shortly before half time (41’), finding the bottom corner with a good effort. Despite chances for Timo Werner and André Silva, RBL headed into the break with just a two-goal advantage.
After offering little in the first half, the visitors did not look like changing the tide in the second. However, Hoffenheim were back in the game from nothing when Kasper Dolberg headed home an Angeliño cross (76’). While proceedings looked to be heading towards an exciting ending,
Timo Werner finished from close range
to put the game to bed (84’). Two minutes later, Stanley Nsoki was shown a second yellow card after kicking the ball away, and RBL secured a 3-1 win to book their place in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals for the fourth time in five years.

8th minute, GOOAAL FOR RBL:
YES! Forsberg gives us an early lead! He gets the ball on the left, drives towards the area and shoots after cutting in on his right. His powerful shot finds its way in off the inside of the near post.
Brooks has an effort in the area but Simakan gets himself in between the ball and the goal to block for a corner.
Halstenberg puts in a cross and just misses André Silva’s outstretched leg.
Nyland is forced into action for the first time, but a deflected shot from Dabbur doesn’t give the ‘keeper any problems.
Angeliño, on loan from RBL, is shown a yellow card after a foul on Simakan.
A nice RBL move unfortunately comes to nothing. Halstenberg sends a high ball ahead of Werner, who finds Forsberg but his effort gets blocked.
41st minute, GOOAAL FOR RBL:
Lead doubled! Halstenberg brings down a ball and shoots from a narrow angle. Baumann saves, but Laimer picks up on the rebound and fires into the far corner.
A comfortable and convincing performance sees Marco Rose’s side 2-0 ahead at the break.

Xaver Schlager finds Werner through the middle and he’s one-no-one with Baumann, but the striker is offside.
Kramarić with a half chance for the visitors on the coutner attack. It’s well defended by RBL, however, and he’s unable to get a good shot off on goal.
Werner finds himself through on goal again and this time goes round Baumann. He looks to slot home and Nsoki clears at the last minute. It wouldn’t have counted, though: Timo was offside again.

From nothing, Hoffenheim are back in the game. Angeliño delivers a cross and Kasper Dolberg heads home. 2-1.
Nearly an equaliser for the visitors! Dabbur nips in to take the ball off Kampl but shoots over the bar from a good position.
84th minute, GOOAAL FOR RBL:
That should be it! Szoboszlai beats a man down the left and plays the ball inside to Poulsen. He keeps his composure and slots it through to Werner, who beats Baumann. 3-1!
