RBL defeat HSV 4-0 to reach last 16 of DFB-Pokal
RB Leipzig defeat Hamburger SV in DFB-Pokal second round | Yussuf Poulsen scores first-half brace | Mohamed Simakan and Benjamin Henrichs score in second half
RB Leipzig have advanced from the second round of the DFB-Pokal after a 4-0 victory over second-division side Hamburger SV at the Red Bull Arena.
The visitors were courageous and almost took the lead through Miro Muheim, but the midfielder’s long shot bounced clear after hitting the bar and the post (20’). RBL then took control of the game and raced into a two-goal lead. Yussuf Poulsen scored a quickfire brace, first tapping in Mohamed Simakan’s square ball (33’) before turning home a cross from André Silva (36’), to give Marco Rose’s team a 2-0 half-time lead.
Emil Forsberg (56’) and Poulsen (65’) had chances to increase the lead, but the third goal came from Simakan, who headed in from a corner (68’). Benjamin Henrichs put the icing on the cake in the 81st minute with a powerful shot into the far corner.

Heyer fouls Szoboszlai on the edge of the area, but Forsberg hits the resulting free kick into the wall.
RBL have been the more controlling team after the first quarter of an hour, but the scores are still level.
Suhonen flicks on a HSV corner but RBL are able to deal with the ball inside the six-yard box.
Muheim fires a great effort goalwards from long range. The ball strikes the underside of the crossbar before ricocheting onto the post and bouncing clear.
Dompé catches Simakan's foot in a duel and the referee awards a free kick.
First real chance for RBL. Forsberg finds Henrichs on the edge of the area, but his shot is saved by Heuer Fernandes.
33RD MINUTE, GOOOAAAL FOR RBL:
Szoboszlai finds Simakan on the overlap down the right and he sends a low cross into the six-yard box, where Poulsen finishes into an open goal.
36TH MINUTE, GOOOAAAAAL FOR RBL:
Just as quickly, Poulsen has scored again! It’s almost a carbon copy of his first goal. Again it’s Szoboszlai who starts the move and he finds Silva on the right. Our number 19 squares to Poulsen in a similar position and he finishes into the back of the net. 2-0!
RBL have taken confidence after quickly doubling their lead and it’s one-way traffic at the moment.
RBL hit on the counter and Forsberg dinks to the back post to Szoboszlai. He heads back across goal and Heuer Fernandes dives across to push behind for a corner.
RB Leipzig take a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to a quickfire Poulsen brace.

Kampl gets into the area but his shot is blocked. The ball ends up with Forsberg, but Heuer Fernandes saves.
Dompé crosses from the left and Königsdörffer heads goalwards, but Blaswich makes a good save.
Big chance for RBL! Substitute Novoa shoots and the ball is deflected across goal, where Poulsen shoots from close range. Heuer Fernandes pulls off a brilliant reaction save. The goal wouldn’t have counted due to an offside call on Yussi, however.
68TH MINUTE, GOOOAAAAL FOR RBL:
Simakan get’s the third! Forsberg puts a corner in towards the front post and Mo rises highest. He heads across goal and it beats Heuer Fernandes at the far post. Just after scoring, Mo earns a rest and is replaced by Xaver Schlager.
81ST MINUTE, GOOOAAAAL FOR RBL:
Benjamin Henrichs gets the fourth. He starts the move himself before some good work from Schlager, who drive forward before plying in Benny. He hits it first time into the far corner.
After a controlled ending to the game, RB Leipzig have booked their place in the round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal with a 4-0 win over HSV.
