"It wasn't enough in the end"
RB Leipzig defeated 5-3 by FC Bayern in Supercup | Marcel Halstenberg and head coach Domenico Tedesco on the game
RB Leipzig suffered a 5-3 defeat to FC Bayern in an exciting Supercup clash at the Red Bull Arena. Here is the reaction to the game.
Marcel Halstenberg:
- "We didn’t want to give them anything today, especially for the first goal. I take responsibility for that. It’s anything but easy when you’re going into the break 3-0 down, but it was probably an exciting game for the fans when you look at the whole 90 minutes. We were more on the ball in the second half and could have levelled the game with a little bit of luck. We were playing for a trophy so it was no surprise that Bayern gave it their all for 90 minutes.
I made amends for my mistake with my goal and perhaps gave us a bit of a push in the second half. We were much better after that, but in the end it wasn’t enough and that’s very disappointing."
Domenico Tedesco:
- "Congratulations to FC Bayern Munich and Julian Nagelsmann on winning the Supercup.
The first half was absolutely not what I’d hoped for. We didn’t mind letting Bayern have so much possession but we had to do a better job of clearing the goals we conceded and practically gave them the first goal. Mistakes in the build-up play happen too often against Bayern.
We changed our system in the second half and we were closer to scoring the goal to make it 4-4 than Bayern were to scoring theirs to make it 5-3. It’s important to watch the game back and do our analysis. It’s difficult to do that right after the game, but of course as the head coach I’ll spend a lot of time thinking about what systems and players can help us the most.
We need to get all the players to the highest level as quickly as possible. You could notice the differences in when players began pre-season a little bit today. In addition to that, we missed Josko Gvardiol a lot. He is an extremely important player for us."
