RB Leipzig returned to action with a bang, picking up a 4-0 win over VfL Bochum at the Red Bull Arena on matchday 8. Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku each scored a brace and were on the scoresheet either side of half time. Werner opened the scoring with an impressive right-footed effort (15’) before Nkunku doubled the advantage from the penalty spot (23’). A sign of Leipzig’s dominance, Bochum failed to register a shot in the first half.
Marco Rose sent out an unchanged side for the second half and his team picked up where they left off. Werner found the back of the net for the second time to make it 3-0 in the 53rd minute to mark his 101th goal for the club. Leipzig had another penalty in the 63rd minute when Marcel Halstenberg was fouled by Antony Losilla, but Nkunku’s penalty hit the post and bounced behind. Our number 18 made up for the missed chance in the 85th minute, finishing coolly past Riemann after a good ball from Emil Forsberg to put the icing on the cake. Next up for RBL is Celtic FC in the Champions League.
