Dramatic 2-1 win over Werder Bremen
Leonardo Bittencourt opens the scoring for Werder | Willi Orbán heads in the equaliser | Szoboszlai scores the 2-1 winner deep in injury time
RB Leipzig came from behind to defeat SV Werder Bremen 2-1 on Bundesliga matchday 32 on Sunday evening.
The first half was a quiet affair, with any chances falling the way of Leipzig, but most opportunities to score were from distance or no problem for Werder goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka. Timo Werner shot over the bar (20’), before Konrad Laimer’s effort was saved (21’) and Benjamin Henrichs also saw an effort go over (25’).
Christopher Nkunku thought he had scored the opener when he turned home a cross from Werner (66’), but the referee disallowed the goal because of an alleged foul by Mohamed Simakan on Leonardo Bittencourt in the build up. Moments later, Bittencourt found the back of the net for the visitors after a good cross from Jens Stage (70’).
RBL neve gave up and Willi Orbán levelled the scores late on, heading home a cross from Nkunku in the 87th minute. In the sixth minute of seven additional minutes, Leipzig turned the game around after some fine individual work from Nkunku left Dominik Szoboszlai with the easiest of tasks, tapping in from close range to put his team ahead (90’+6).

First half highlights
Underway! Let's go, RBL!
First effort of the game is a long range shot from Haidara, but it’s central and not a problem for Pavlenka
Laimer finds Werner with a ball over the defence, but his shot goes over the bar.
Henrichs cuts in from the left and shoots from the edge of the area, but it’s over the bar.
A Simakan header goes wide, but the offside flag goes up anyway.
It’s been a tight half so far, with Leipzig mainly reduced to shots from outside the area and Werder not very present in the opposition half.
Szoboszlai goes for goal directly from a corner! His low effort hits the front post and goes behind.
A goalless first half comes to an end. RBL have been the better side so far, but it’s all to play for after the break.

Second half highlights
We’re back underway. Both sides are unchanged after the break.

70TH MINUTE, GOAL FOR WERDER:
Just moments later, Werder lead. Stage crosses in the penalty area, where Bittencourt is free and finishes at the back post.
Big save from Pavlenka to deny Christo! Our number 18 had danced his way through defenders in the area before producing a low effort towards the near corner. Werder’s goalkeeper got down really well to save.
RBL continue to pressure the Werder goal, with the visitors sitting deeper and deeper.
