RBL celebrate 3-0 win over Gladbach
RB Leipzig defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 24 | Janis Blaswich saves penalty | Timo Werner opens the scoring | Emil Forsberg doubles the lead | Joško Gvardiol decides the game late on
RB Leipzig defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-0 thanks to three second-half goals and picked up three important points in the race for the Champions League.
Both sides had early chances but were denied by the opposition goalkeepers. Janis Blaswich saved a Marcus Thuram effort (10’), while Timo Werner had a shot saved by Tobias Sippel (11’). The remainder of the half was relatively low on chances, although the better opportunities fell to the away side.
The second half began promisingly for Gladbach when David Raum was penalised for a foul in the area on Jonas Hofmann, but Alassane Pléa’s penalty was saved by Janis Blaswich (53’). A few moments later, Timo Werner crashed a shot in off the underside of the crossbar (57’) and Emil Forsberg doubled the lead from the spot after Amadou Haidara was brought to ground by Pléa (71’).
Joško Gvardiol put the icing on the cake (80’) late on, turning the ball home at the far post after Yussuf Poulsen flicked on a corner. Dani Olmo capped a good day when he came off the bench in the 87th minute to mark his return from injury after 43 days on the sidelines.
