Longer injury setback for Yussuf Poulsen
MRI scan reveals more severe injury in left adductor area | Return to training not expected until September
Our record appearance maker will face an even longer spell on the sidelines. RB Leipzig will be without Yussuf Poulsen for pre-season and the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign. The forward picked up a muscle injury in the area of his left adductor during Denmark’s Nations League game against Croatia on 10th June.
An MRI scan carried out this week revealed a more severe injury and therefore resulted in an adjustment to the recovery timeline.
Dr. Helge Riepenhof, Director Medicine & Sports Science:
- "This injury involves complicated damage to the muscle and tendon system. The extent of the injury only became clear in the past few days after puncturing and therefore reduction of the bruising around the injured muscle allowed a clear view. Together, we have decided on a conservative treatment, so that Yussi can probably be reintegrated into training in September. At the same time, we will do everything we can to find and solve the causes of the frequent muscle injuries in recent months."
Yussuf Poulsen:
- "Of course I'm frustrated with the injury setback and the long time out. I was really looking forward to the new season again after our cup win. I will use the time to come back and be at 100% as quickly as possible. At the same time, I will undergo a complete check-up to minimise the risk of future injury as much as possible. Until then, I will support the team as best I can off the pitch."
