It’s another award for Christo!
Our attacker Christopher Nkunku has been named Kicker’s footballer of the year. The vote, run for the 63rd time by the sports magazine, saw Christo win the award in a close race against last year’s winner and top Bundesliga goalscorer Robert Lewandowski.
Nkunku received 134 votes, making him the footballer of the season. Robert Lewandowski followed with 128 votes, and Kevin Trapp took third place with 65 votes. A total of 706 votes were cast by members of the German Sports Journalists’ Association, of which eight were invalid.
Lea Schüller of FC Bayern Munich was named female footballer of the year, while SC Freiburg’s Christian Streich won the coach of the year award.
Christopher Nkunku on the award:
“I feel very honoured and appreciative to have won such a prestigious award. First and foremost, I must thank my team, coaching staff and club staff. Without their support, this sort of season would not have been possible. Now I am moving ahead and looking forward to the new season.”
