RBL sign David Raum | 10 facts about our new arrival | Crossing specialist comes off a brilliant season
Welcome to Leipzig! David Raum is RBL’s new number 22. The 24-year-old Germany international has signed a contract with RBL until 2027. More information about the transfer here!
We have put together 10 facts you should know about David.
1) Early bloomer
Born in Nürnberg, David has been playing football since he was four years old. His first team was Tuspo Nürnberg, in his home town. Four years later, the then 8-year-old signed for neighbouring Greuther Furth, joining their academy setup.
2) Left foot is right for David
The 1.80m tall defender becomes the sixth left-footed player in the RBL squad.
3) Meteoric rise
In just one year, the now 24-year-old made his Bundesliga debut (with TSG Hoffenheim), won the European U21 Championships, took part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo and earned his first senior cap with Germany.
From the second division to the national team in just 12 months!
4) His best season yet
With his crosses, the left-footer racked up plenty of assists in his first season in the Bundesliga. The 2021/22 campaign saw him score three goals and register 13 assists in 35 matches. Might he put in a dream cross or two for Christopher Nkunku?

5. Symbolic tattoos
David has a number of tattoos on his body, including a small lightning bolt behind his left ear, a lion on his upper right arm, a rose on his right hand, two fists on his right thigh, an archangel on his neck that is said to protect him, and what is probably the most significant tattoo for him: the words "Living the Dream" on his chest.
In the first game back after the 2021/22 winter break, he scored for Hoffenheim against Augsburg, which allowed David to show this phrase to the crowd in celebration. He said then that he was “living the dream of every young footballer in Germany, and so the statement fitted rather well.”
6. His biggest career goals
“If I really get to live my dream of playing at the 2022 World Cup, then I will also certainly immortalise that on my body.”
(And there’ll be some space for a bull, we hope...)
7. Our new number 22
David will adorn the number 22 on his RBL shirt. It’s a number that has been worn previously by goalkeeper Alexander Moritz, Benjamin Bellot, Philipp Köhn and most recently Nordi Mukiele. Raum had also used this number during his last season at Greuther Fürth. For Germany, he currently has the number 3 on his back.
8. Back-up plan
If he hadn’t become a footballer, then he would probably have become a teacher.
9. Common roots
David hasn’t really rubbed shoulders with any other RBL players in his career so far. Kevin Kampl did briefly ply his trade with the Kleeblätter, but Raum was still in their academy at the time. Other than his national teammates Marcel Halstenberg, Lukas Klostermann and Benjamin Henrichs, Raum will be meeting a completely new set of colleagues.
10. Four-legged friend
David and his girlfriend own a dachshund called Twix.
