RBL come back from 3-0 down to draw in Augsburg
Three goals in the last 20 minutes see RBL draw 3-3 | Berisha, Demirovic and Vargas score for FCA | Goals from Silva, Nkunku and Novoa rescue a point | Unbeaten run stretches to seven games
Incredible comeback in Augsburg! RBL came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 away to FC Augsburg on Bundesliga matchday 11. The draw sees Leipzig’s unbeaten run extend to seven games across all competitions.
The first half was an even affair with few chances at either end, Emil Forsberg went close to opening the scoring in the 28th minute. However, the first goal came at the other end, when Mergim Berisha converted from the penalty spot on 35 minutes after David Raum brought down Ruben Vargas in the area. Ermedin Demirovic nearly doubled the lead (41’) but the half ended with the home side narrowly ahead.
The second half got off to the worst possible start for Marco Rose’s side as Demirovic headed home a corner from Berisha (51’). Thirteen minutes later the hosts had a third, again from a dead ball. A free kick from deep found Vargas at the front post. The forward did well to bring the ball under control before firing a good finish across goal into the far corner (64’). Just moments later, Augsburg full back Iago was shown two yellow cards in quick succession for a foul and his reaction, handing RBL a lifeline (66’). André Silva turned home Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross to record his first goal of the season (72’), before Christopher Nkunku scored a pin-point free-kick from the edge of the area (89’). Hugo Novoa finished a rebound into an open net after a swift counter attack to level the game in the final minute of regular time (90’). In the end, it could have been more for RBL, but they take a point home from Augsburg after a valiant fight back
