A first match of the new year: RB Leipzig will get back on the pitch for the first time in 2023 on Saturday afternoon, facing Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bundesliga’s fourth-placed side are completing a training camp in Dubai as part of preparations for the rest of the season.
First half: Silva bags brace after Lindström opens scoring
Eintracht took were ruthless with their first chance of the game, Jesper Lindström scoring a free-kick from 25 yards (7’). A quick response was almost provided by Marcel Halstenberg, but his set-piece from a similar distance on 12 minutes narrowly missed to the left. RBL took control of the game in the final 15 minutes of the half, thanks to a brace from André Silva. ‘Halste’ first set the Portuguese up for a headed equaliser on 35 minutes, before he finished off a Doudou Haidara ball over the top just before the break (44’) – RB Leipzig with the 2-1 lead at half time.
Second half: Frankfurt turn it around
Head coach Marco Rose changed the entire RBL team at half time, including goalkeeper Orjan Nyland. The Norwegian had to pick the ball out of the net twice in a minute, as Rafael Borré first latched onto and finished a through ball (70’), before Randal Kolo Muani gave SGE the lead on 71 minutes from a rebound. With five minutes of normal time to go, Kolo Muani netted again to finish the scoring. The match ended 4-2 to Frankfurt.
