#GERHUN in the Red Bull Arena
Timo Werner, David Raum and Benjamin Henrichs (Germany)
Timo Werner, David Raum and Benjamin Henrichs are in Germany’s squad for their Nations League games against Hungary, at our home on 23rd September, and England in the UEFA Nations League.
In the UEFA Nations League, the trio will face top-class opponents with the Germany national team.
UEFA Nations League
- 23rd September | Germany 1-0 Hungary
Leipzig | Red Bull Arena
David Raum and Timo Werner both started in Leipzig. Germany struggled to break down Hungary's strong defence and lost after a wonderful goal by Adam Szalai, the first defeat in the Hansi Flick era.
- 26th September | England 3-3 Germany
London | Wembley
What a game! Despite a solid but goalless first half, it was in the second half where the action really happened. Germany went ahead through a penalty and doubled their lead thanks to a counter attack finished off by Kai Havertz from a Timo Werner assist. Within eleven minutes, the ‘Three Lions’ had not only equalised but also gone into the lead through a penalty of their own. In the 87th minute, Kai Havertz scored his second of the game to draw the contest level. Leipzig players Timo Werner and David Raum both featured.
Péter Gulácsi, Willi Orbán and Dominik Szoboszlai (Hungary)
Hungary once again have named three RBL players in their squad. Péter Gulácsi, Willi Orbán and Dominik Szoboszlai have two games coming up, including one against Germany.
UEFA Nations League
- 23rd September | Germany 0-1 Hungary
Leipzig | Red Bull Arena
A clash of six Leipzig players saw Hungary come out on top, with all three of their Leipzig players in the starting XI. They put in a disciplined performance for their third win of the group. It was Dominik Szoboszlai's corner that was sensationally flicked in by Adam Szalai to give them all three points.
- 26th September | Hungary 0-2 Italy
Budapest | Puskás Aréna
Hungary’s Leipzig trio started the game once again, as they hunted for a place in the Nations League latter stages. Italy, however, were not overawed and profited from individual errors and their own quality in attack, taking a 1-0 lead through Giacomo Raspadori in the 32nd minute. Hungary continued to present a goal threat and were denied by the impressive Gianluigi Donnarumma before Italy scored again to kill off the game.
Xaver Schlager (Austria)
Our midfielder is also in Nations League action with Austria. He will take on teammate Christopher Nkunku when they meet France.
UEFA Nations League
- 22nd September | France 2-0 Austria
Paris | Stade de France
Austria kept up with “Les Bleus” for large periods of the game and Xaver Schlager not only provided stability at the back, he also played a key role when his side looked to get forwards. France, however, were ultimately too strong and they ran away 2-0 winners.
- 25th September: Austria 1-3 Croatia
Vienna | Ernst-Happel-Stadion
Despite going behind early, Austria managed to equalise just three minutes later. However, two second-half goals for the visitors saw them lose the game and condemn them to relegation to League B for the next edition of the Nations League.
Emil Forsberg (Sweden)
Emil Forsberg will be hoping to perform once again for Sweden in their UEFA Nations League fixtures.
UEFA Nations League
- 24th September | Serbia 4-1 Sweden
Belgrade | Rajko Mitić Stadium
Even though Sweden took the lead, they were heavily beaten in Serbia, who went top of Group B4 thanks to Aleksander Mitrovic's hat-trick.
- 27th September | Sweden 1-1 Slovenia
Solna | Friends Arena
Two goals from the two Leipzig players! After that, the two bottom placed teams in the group could not find a winner. In the 28th minute, Leipzig new signing Benjamin Sesko, who will be available for the team next season (2023/24), put Slovenia into the lead. Emil Forsberg equalised shortly before half time, but it was not enough to prevent relegation to Nations League C.
Josko Gvardiol (Croatia)
Our talented defender has already won 10 caps aged just 20, and has scored one goal. He’ll be hoping to win two more caps in the upcoming UEFA Nations League games.
UEFA Nations League
- 22nd September | Croatia 2-1 Denmark
Zagreb | Stadion Maksimir
Our rock at the back Josko Gvardiol played for the full 90 minutes and he remained solid throughout. He even posed a threat from set pieces with his strong heading ability. His Croatia side ran out 2-1 winners after a convincing performance against Denmark. The win puts Croatia top of their group with one game to play.
- 27th September | Austria 1-3 Croatia
Vienna | Ernst-Happel-Stadion
Croatia secured first place in their group with this 3-1 win. Josko played the full game as he continues to establish himself as a key player for his national side.
Christopher Nkunku (France)
Christo has played four times so far in the UEFA Nations League, setting up two goals.
UEFA Nations League
- 22nd September | France 2-0 Austria
Paris | Stade de France
France were in control for most of the game against Austria. Kylian Mbappé gave his side the lead in the 56th minute, before Olivier Giroud doubled France’s advantage just nine minutes later. Christo came onto the field with eleven minutes remaining and he helped his side pick up their first win in this year’s Nations League.
- 25th September | Denmark 2-0 France
Copenhagen | Parken
It was another disappointing Nations League outing for Equipe tricolore. Despite some good chances early on, they were kept at bay by a strong Danish goalkeeper. Two quick goals between the 33rd and 39th minute got Denmark the win. Christo came on in the 65th minute.
Amadou Haidara (Mali)
Amadou Haidara and his nation have two friendlies scheduled.
Friendlies
- 23rd September | Mali 1-0 Zambia
Bamako | Stade du 26 mars
Mali went ahead after just six minutes and had several chances to go further ahead. Amadou Haidara came off the bench in the 63rd minute. The two sides will meet again in Mali on 26th September.
Abdou Diallo (Senegal)
Abdou Diallo could also feature twice in friendlies.
Friendlies

Orleans | Stade de la Source
Senegal were in good form in France and Abdou Diallo impressed with his build-up play.
- 27th September | Senegal 1-1 Iran
Vienna | Bundesstadion Südstadt
Abdou Diallo did not feature as the friendly on Austrian soil ended up with a draw. Senegal went ahead through an own goal, with Sardar Azmoun equalising for Iran 10 minutes later.
Hugo Novoa (Spain U21s)
Hugo Novoa is again in Spain’s U21s squad. They have two friendlies on the cards during this international break.
Friendlies

- 27th September | Spain U21s 3-0 Norway U21s
Spain U21 also won convincingly in their second friendly. Hugo Novoa marked the occasion with his first goal for the U21s, firing in after a strong dribble from the right-hand side to put Spain 3-0 up.
Sanoussy Ba (Germany U19s)
Our youngster Sanoussy Ba has been called up for Germany U19s for the first time. He has already impressed during his time in the UEFA Youth League and the Bundesliga.
