"We were lacking the final punch"
Lukas Klostermann, Jesse Marsch and Péter Gulácsi on the 1-0 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg
Lukas Klostermann:
- "It wasn't enough from us at the end of the day. We were lacking the final punch. There were a lot of stoppages in the game and it didn't really flow. After going behind, we found it hard to dominate the play. Wolfsburg are strong at the back and we struggled to connect with our passes in the final third. We lacked some creativity.
Of course, we imagined a different start to the season. We’ve got two huge fixtures after the international break and we have to up our game. We have some big challenges ahead of us, but we have a team that is capable of winning the big games. We have to give our all to do so, and that's what we'll do. We can't beat ourselves up too much and have to keep our heads up."
Jesse Marsch:
- "We couldn’t win enough duels today, and our plan could have been too passive to begin with. After 25 minutes, we came into the game more and won more and more balls, but we were not dangerous enough in transition and when in possession. We needed to be more dynamic going forward. Our most dangerous situations were at set pieces. That's not good enough; we need to create more danger. It wasn't all bad today, but we have some work to do."
Péter Gulácsi:
- "It was a balanced game with few chances. We started the second half better and with more pressure, but unfortunately conceded the goal during that spell. It’s very frustrating because we wanted to get something here. We have to look ahead.
We played against a good side. Unfortunately, we weren’t as accurate in our play as we were against Stuttgart and Wolfsburg made us pay. We didn’t allow much, which makes it particularly frustrating to have lost."
