“I want to be a leader”
Tyler Adams speaks to the media
Tyler Adams is ready to become a leader. He made this clear when speaking to the media on the final day of training in Saalfelden. The American has now got four weeks of pre-season training under his belt with new coach Jesse Marsch, who he knows from their time together in New York.
Tyler developed massively over the last season and he wants to continue improving this time around.
Tyler Adams on...
...the fighting spirit within the team:
“Jesse March split us up into four teams at the start of the training camp and we all go up against each other at the end of every session. I’m on a team with Emil Forsberg, Hee-chan Hwang, Josep Martínez, Mohamed Simakan and Alexander Sörloth. We were unfortunately in last place yesterday, but a win today has put us second.
We’re all really ambitious and want the overall win, so it’s very competitive on the pitch. A bit of competition won’t destroy our team spirit.
The final is on Friday evening and it will be table tennis. My team & I are ready!”
"Team blue" are hoping to win the tournament
Jesse Marsch places a lot of value on team spirit and makes sure every day that all the players are happy. He wants to make sure that everyone gets along with each other.
...speeches:
“We’ve finished our final session in Saalfelden. Coach Jesse Marsch called us over like he does after every session and said he was pleased with how we trained this week.
We’ve been working hard now for almost a month ahead of the new season. Obviously it’s not been ideal with all the lads coming back later from EURO 2020. But we never complained about the situation, and all individuals worked even harder individually on their fitness.”
...team spirit:
“The atmosphere within the team is really good. Jesse Marsch places a lot of value on team spirit and makes sure every day that all the players are happy. He wants to make sure that everyone gets along with each other.
Obviously we’re not at the end of pre-season yet. When you get a new coach, there’s always new tactics and a new mentality, so you need time to adjust. That’s just normal. We’re on the right track.
We’ve played well in the friendlies so far. You can see how we are improving day by day. We want to continue like this against Ajax on Saturday and get a win to give us a confidence boost. We’re all really looking forward to that game.”
...a reunion:
“It’s always nice to meet someone again who you already worked with in your career. That’s why I’m really happy that Jesse Marsch is the new head coach of RB Leipzig – and that we’ve got another American here. Our relationship is really good – he was my first coach at New York Red Bulls, and my first as a professional footballer.
I'm ready to be a leader!
...leadership qualities:
“I’m ready to become a leader on the pitch! And I believe that I can be a good leader. I’ve been trying to be a true professional since the start of my career and I’ve always looked to win the respect of the older players as a youngster. Now I could be a good go between for the younger players and the more established ones.”
...developing:
“Before Jesse Marsch, I had two other excellent coaches in Ralf Rangnick and Julian Nagelsmann, who really helped my development. I learnt an awful lot from them. With Ralf, it was more about Gegenpressing, winning the ball back and breaking, whereas Julian showed me a different style of football with more possession and I tucked in as a right-back. We’ll probably have a mix of those things under Jesse.”
