"It's a historic evening for us!"
Oliver Mintzlaff, Domenico Tedesco, P´éter Gulácsi and Emil Forsberg react to winning the DFB-Pokal
RB LEIPZIG ARE DFB-POKAL WINNERS! Despite going behind, being a man down and going through a penalty shoot out, the Red Bulls deservedly lifted the trophy!
Here's the reaction to the game.
Oliver Mintzlaff:
- "It’s crazy. We played with ten men for 60 minutes. We started the game badly and needed to show another side to ourselves in the second half. It’s amazing that everything came together in the end. This is our first major trophy.
It takes a little while for that to sink in. We have to stop and look at what we have achieved in the last 13 years and in the six years in the Bundesliga. It’s fantastic. We’re really going to celebrate this one! It is a historic evening for us."
Domenico Tedesco:
- "We’ll need a few days to process everything – it was a really emotional game. We played with a man down for 60 minutes. I still can’t come to terms with it all. It’s a great relief.
I can only praise the boys for the performance. It's one thing to change the approach, and another thing to perform so well when you're a man down, to defend so passionately. I'm incredibly proud of the team - all the players.
Jesse Marsch has also played his part in the success, winning the earlier rounds. He left an intact team. It’s the same team; we just made a few adjustments.
Tonight we'll look for a club and we’ll visit as a team with all of our staff"
Emil Forsberg:
- "I’m speechless. To win in that way is not easy – being a man down and coming back like that. It shows passion and mentality. It’s been seven years, but I’ve finally won something.
We had about six or seven assistant coaches firing us on from the sideline, as well as all the players not on the pitch.
There will be real celebrations tonight. It will be huge."
Péter Gulácsi:
- "It’s really special. Nobody would have thought after 60 minutes that we would win. We showed fantastic morale. The game could have gone either way in extra time, but I think we deserved the win in the end."
