Friendly against Viktoria Berlin
Brobbey’s first goal for the club wins it
This afternoon, RB Leipzig took on Viktoria Berlin, one day after beating SV Sandhausen in the DFB-Pokal. The teams agreed to play two 30-minute halves.
The Roten Bullen made the better start against newly promoted and third-division leaders Viktoria Berlin. The first chance of the game fell to Konni Laimer in the eighth minute, but his volley sailed over the bar. Just before the break, his teammates created the opening goal. Dominik Szoboszlai was alert in midfield and played the ball over the top for Ademola Lookman. Lookman then had the presence of mind to draw in Viktoria keeper Krahl and lay it across for Brian Brobbey, who had the simplest of tasks to slot the ball home (28’).
Jesse Marsch made one change at the break, bringing on Yussuf Poulsen. The Dane was a thorn in the side of the opposition defence and could have made it 2-0 on 42 minutes after being played in by Szoboszlai. Shortly after, Hugo Novoa’s long-range effort brushed the outside of the post. The lively Szoboszlai had a header saved by the goalkeeper before the match ended with a deserved 1-0 win for Leipzig in front of 7,023 spectators.
