"We needed to be patient"
CEO Oliver Minztlaff, head coach Domenico Tedesco, and players Kevin Kampl, Willi Orban and Tyler Adams on RB Leipzig's 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg
Oliver Mintzlaff:
- "It's been a very good month for us. We won all three Bundesliga games and reached the next round of the DFB-Pokal. Despite the first half of the season, our goals haven't changed. We'll do everything to qualify for the Champions League."
Domenico Tedesco:
- "We’d have liked to have scoured our goals earlier on, and that could have been possible in one or two situations. The opposition threw everything they had into it today and we had to remain patient. Wolfsburg are a hard team to defend against. They're very dangerous in the final third, so it's very important that we defended well. They had a big chance in the first half and we could have gone behind. Wolfsburg have a really good team with some fantastic players and they did well today.
All three changes in the 55th minute were very promising. They were attacking changes. Dani and Klosti did really well, as did Ty and Nordi, who returned today.
On one hand, we're pleased to have a bit more free time to enjoy ourselves in training, not only tactically but also conditionally. You can really get to work without any midweek games. On the other hand, we're in good form and it wouldn't be the worst thing if we had to carry on playing games."
Kevin Kampl:
- "We knew before the game that it wouldn't be a walk in the park. Wolfsburg have some top players and played well today. We stayed patient and scored our goals. We can be pleased. Wolfsburg defended well on the front foot, but we did better in the second half. It was a physical game; there were a lot of duels and fouls.
We have a bit of time to train now. It’s really good to have these two weeks. The win does good for our confidence. The side that we’re showing now is our true side, but we’re still not where we want to be. But we have our goals and we will continue working towards them."
Willi Orban:
- "It was very important that we were patient today. It wasn’t an easy surface to play on. Both sides lost possession easily. It wasn't our best game, but you could see that it was an important game for both teams today.
It’s important to pick up results. Of course, we can play better. The best thing that can happen to us is to win games while still feeling that you’re not 100% satisfied. That’s what you take into training the next week. Now we’ll start to focus on the areas that we want to take up a notch. We want to improve a few aspects of our play, but I’m pleased that we’ve won today.
We want to build on all phases of our game. Above all in possession, you could see that it was a little too hectic at times and we lost the ball too easily. We had to give a lot to win it back again. I think we’re getting a new surface now; that will make it even more enjoyable."
Tyler Adams:
- "Our goal at the start of the year was to kick off with a winning stream and become better as a team. We’ve had games like this this season that we haven’t won. I’m very proud of the team. It wasn’t a pretty game but we took on the fight and won our duels.
We have three important games in the upcoming days with the USA. Our goal is to qualify for the World Cup. We have a lot of young and talented players. I’m really looking forward to the games; it’s a great honour for me to be able to represent my country."
