Head coach Domenico Tedesco:
- "I think the 2-2 scoreline is fair. We've put ourselves in this position now. We were too slow in the first half, to begin with perhaps a little surprised that the opposition were defending so deeply with a back five. In the second half we were the exact opposite and were dynamic and quick. A draw is okay when you go behind twice. Emil Forsberg was really good, picking the ball up in deep areas and driving forward. Every substitution had a positive impact, which of course pleases us. Those are signs that the players are making."
Goalscorer Emil Forsberg:
- "We didn't start the game well and made a few mistakes, but then it got better. We had to work our way back after the penalty and we did that well. I think we were the better side, but Real Sociedad also did well. Now we'll go to Spain to win."
Captain Péter Gulácsi:
- "Everything is open. We’d have liked to have won the game; I think we were the more dominant team. At the end of the day it’s frustrating, but there’s a lot that we can take from the game. We saw that we have a good chance when our play is aggressive and intense."
Konrad Laimer:
- "It felt like we had 95% of the ball but we conceded two silly goals. We were perhaps a little bit too slow. However, we came from behind twice and now everything is open for the second leg. Of course, we want to progress. Half of the tie is over and I’m confident that we’ll advance next Thursday."
Kevin Kampl:
- "In the end, we’ve come back really well. It was really important to get the second equaliser. But the opposition scored two goals from what was basically two half chances and we shouldn’t have let that happen because we were clearly dominant. Above all in the second half, we put them under pressure. We are going to Spain to win the game. Everything is there for the taking. I think that we played well over long stretches, but of course there were things we could have done better. We will give our all over there to reach the next round."
