"Roll up our sleeves and get to work!"
Hear from assistant coach Achim Beierlorzer, Kevin Kampl, André Silva and Konrad Laimer following the 3-1 defeat to Leverkusen
Achim Beierlorzer:
- "We knew that this would be a big game between two teams that want to finish in a Champions League spot. Leverkusen played well and managed to break through our backline on many occasions. We had told ourselves that we wanted to beat them on the counter, which we didn't manage. As a result, we deservedly lost.
We definitely missed the fans tonight, that was obvious. It's weird to have to play in an empty stadium. We will work hard to become more consistent, that's something we work towards every day with the lads. It's our task to guide the team to victory even in important games such as this."
Kevin Kampl:
- "The disappointment right now is high. We wanted to win tonight and take this chance to move up the table and surpass Leverkusen. Having come off such a big win against Brugge, of course this is a set-back. We weren't aggressive enough in front of goal, lost possession too often and gave Leverkusen easy chances to counter. With the pace they have in their squad, they are one of the best counter-attacking sides in the Bundesliga.
Our current position in the table is obviously not where we want to be. We want to move up the table, but we can only do that as a team. We have a great squad, and I'm confident that we will get more consistent. We now need to all roll up our sleeves and get to work, so that we lift ourselves up the table together."
André Silva:
- "You never get used to playing in front of empty stands at home. The most important thing is that we proved that we can control the game, be active and create chances. We haven't had the results we wanted so far this season. But, that's football. We need to continue to work hard as a team. We will continue to give our best. We want to win games, both for the fans and ourselves."
Konrad Laimer:
- "We didn't get off to a good start. We knew that Leverkusen are quick on the counter. We weren't aggressive enough and didn't defend well. We also had some chances of our own, but didn't use them. I'm annoyed by the fact that we go through so many highs and lows. We play well, then poorly, then good again and then back to poorly. It's really starting to annoy me!
We need to start finding some consistency and manage to string together a series of wins. Especially at home, we want to win every game."
