RB Leipzig currently in fourth with just one Bundesliga matchday remaining | A point in Bielefeld would almost certainly be enough to secure Champions League football for next season

FC Union Berlin (54) close behind – however, Union’s goal difference is 30 fewer than ours, meaning that they realistically cannot catch up to us anymore.

Work to do before the cup final
Only two teams are left in the race for the Champions League – RB Leipzig (57 points), and our DFB-Pokal final opponents, SC Freiburg (55), who suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Union Berlin on matchday 33 and subsequently surrendered fourth place to us.
Bayern München, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have already confirmed their places in the Champions League next season.
How the table currently stands
Our chances of a Champions League spot
Let’s go, Leipzig! Domenico Tedesco’s side are in control of their own destiny going into the final matchday of 2021/22. An away win in Bielefeld would definitely assure that Leipzig qualify for the Champions League. However, a draw would also be enough given that our goal difference is 22 goals greater than that of Freiburg. If we draw in Bielefeld, SCF’s only chance to pip us to fourth spot would be by winning at an extraordinarily high margin.
Were we to lose in Bielefeld, we could still qualify for the UCL as long as Freiburg also fail to win in Leverkusen. Simply put: If Freiburg lose and Leipzig win, RB would fall to fifth place and take the Europa League spot instead.
So that we don’t have to start making all sorts of calculations, the objective is this: Give it our all and win, so that we can celebrate qualifying for the Champions League!
