A friendly win in ice-cold temperatures! RB Leipzig beat Regionalliga side FC Eilenburg 2-1. Head coach Jesse Marsch rested some players who remained in Leipzig this international break to manage the physical load on the squad. First-teamers Philipp Tschauner, Ilaix Moriba, Benjamin Henrichs, Sidney Raebiger and Joscha Wosz all got runs out against the “Blue-Reds” of Eilenburg, with the rest of the evening’s team filled by U19s. The 333 in attendance saw what they could do right from the start, and Kacper Smorgol gave the Red Bulls the lead in the 38th minute, after some wonderful work from summer signing Ilaix Moriba.
Jesse Marsch took off Benjamin Henrichs at half time, as he complained of some back pain. “It’s nothing serious, he’s all fine,” said the American after the final whistle. The second half saw RB double their lead, as U19 talent Mehmet Ibrahimi scored on 71 minutes. His complete performance was impressive, so much so that coach Marsch rewarded him for his efforts. “Him and Solomon Bonnah will both train with the first team from next week,” said the head coach, speaking to the media after the game. A late goal from Eilenburg did not change the successful outcome of the friendly, as Nils Tzeuschner took his chance three minutes from time. RB ultimately had the upper hand in the friendly.
