Kevin Kampl is staying until 2024!
Midfielder’s contract extended by a further year | Already played 170 times for RB Leipzig
Kevin Kampl is going nowhere! RB Leipzig and Kevin Kampl have agreed on an early extension on his contract, meaning the Slovenian will now remain at the club until 2024. The 31-year-old has been in Leipzig since August 2017 and can now look forward to his seventh season at the club.
Kevin Kampl has played 170 times in all competitions for RB Leipzig (9th most games in club history), scoring six goals and recording 18 assists. The midfielder has been a big part of the side that has enjoyed the best season in club history, where the Red Bulls have made the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League, finished fourth in the Bundesliga to qualify for the Champions League next season and reached the final of the DFB-Pokal, to be played on Saturday at 20:00 CEST in Berlin.
Kevin Kampl:
“RB Leipzig is my club, Leipzig is my city and it’s been a second home for me and my family for a long time now. I’ve had a great and successful time here since 2017 and I’m proud to be staying here as we continue to write more history. We’ve now got a massive game coming up with our third Pokal final in Berlin and we want to bring the trophy back to Leipzig this time. Our fans deserve it. Being able to announce my new contract before the final is even nicer and shows that we’re going to continue this journey together!”
Florian Scholz, Commercial Director Sport:
“Kevin Kampl is a really well-respected player who has been a key part of our team and club for five years. Kevin represents the club’s journey: he’s continually developed, he’s made long-term decisions and he’s hungry for success. As a result, we quickly came to the conclusion that we would like to carry on working together for a further year after 2023.”
Christopher Vivell, Technical Director:
“Every team needs leaders with experience and Kevin has developed into one here. He’s really important for our team and our many young players. He’s important both on and off the pitch to us. He reads the game well and his build-up play is a key part of our game. He plays the way we want to play football and that makes him so valuable to us.”
