“The passion, the will, the mentality – it’s all there!”
Emil Forsberg speaks to the media after training on Tuesday | The Swede talks about the upcoming game at home to Hertha BSC
A new Bundesliga week gets underway! On Saturday the Red Bulls will host capital club Hertha BSC at the Red Bull Arena. After the open training session on Tuesday morning, Emil Forsberg answered questions from the press. The midfielder spoke about the mood in camp, the game against 1. FC Köln and his exchanges with head coach Jesse Marsch. We’ve collected his answers here.
Emil Forsberg on...
... the mood in camp
“I’ve often made it clear that the mood and the mentality in the squad is good. We’re on the right path and we know what we want to do. The training sessions have been very good. We need to bead Hertha on Saturday, for our self-confidence if nothing else. The passion, the will, the mentality – it’s all there! We just have to show it on the pitch. We want to give our fans a win!”
... the approach to games
“The quality within our squad gives us a lot of options during games. We can play with both a 5-back and a 3-back still make it work on the pitch. We need to keep calm on the ball, especially in games as intense as the one last time out against Köln, where we did that well. It’s normal to have a bit of uncertainty after a loss but against Köln we kept a good portion of our self-confidence or worked on it. We’ve also spoken about it within the squad.”
We want to give our fans a win!
... the upcoming game against Hertha Berlin
“We know what the game will be like and what we want to get out of it. It will be all about putting pressure on them and making them lose the ball so that we can attack in transition. It will also depend on what we do with the ball. We can’t let ourselves be hectic and disorganised, and if we do that well then I’m sure we have a good chance of a win against Hertha. We always play well against them, and in our own stadium with our own fans behind us it’ll be a great game for sure. We need to use those things to our advantage!”
... the integration of the new signings
“The guys who have been here longer have been helping the newer and younger players and giving them advice. It’s not always easy to move to a new club in a new city or even sometimes a new country. They’ll need time and everyone will need to support each other and be there for one another! We all want to have success together. On Saturday, we have a good chance.”
... his discussions with coach Jesse Marsch
“Jesse Marsch is the coach – he makes the decisions, but it’s important to him that everyone in the team is allowed an opinion and can share it. We can always have open discussions with him and I find that great. Every player has their own responsibility and we all really feel that. As a result, the mood within the team is really good. We want to lead the way, and we want to show that with a win at home on Saturday!”
