How RBL can secure Europa League football
RB Leipzig look to secure third place in Champions League Group A | Final position in group to be decided on Matchday 6 | Club Brugge in action against PSG
RB Leipzig have their sights set on the Europa League. The Red Bulls moved into third place in Group A on Matchday 5 of the Champions League, defeating Club Brugge 5-0. Therefore, RBL are in charge of their own destiny heading into the final game as they look to secure European football for the New Year.
The focus on Matchday 6 is now a matter of defending the third place, which would see he team qualify for the knockout round of Europe’s secondary continental competition.
We have the chance to achieve third place and we want to take it.
At 18:45 CET on 7th December, RB Leipzig will host Man City, who have already secured first place in the group. At the same time, fourth-placed Club Brugge head to Paris to take on second-placed PSG. The French side have also tied up second place in the group.
Leipzig and Brugge both sit on four points after RBL’s significant 5-0 win in Belgium last week. Therefore, the Red Bulls have the cards in their hand ahead of Tuesday’s games.
RB Leipzig qualify for the Europa League...
- if they win against Manchester City. In that case, the outcome of the Brugge match would not matter, with the Belgian side having no chance of moving into third place regardless of their result.
- if they draw against Manchester City and Brugge do not win against PSG.
- in case of a defeat against Manchester City, if Brugge also lose against PSG.
Simply put: RBL must match or better Brugge’s result on Tuesday. Only if Brugge pick up more points against than Leipzig in their respective fixtures would the Red Bulls finish bottom of the group and miss out on the Europa League.
