We all thought and hoped that we could leave the words 'pandemic' or 'corona' back in 2020. Unfortunately, however, these phrases have continued to affect all areas of life and become a part of everyday lives.
We are very grateful that football was allowed to continue in 2021 - above all to be able to continue this important element of normality for you.
We had to end last season without spectators. That was a particularly tough feeling especially in the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin, because we all still know the emotion and enthusiasm from the final in 2019. The opening games of the new season felt all the better when fans were finally allowed come back to the Red Bull Arena again.
The games against Paris Saint-Germain and Dortmund in front of over 40,000 were incredible and a great gift for all of us. Some of us shed a tear of joy because the atmosphere was so electrifying and we could finally celebrate the most beautiful pastime in the world the way we love it again.
Since the end of November, the stands have been empty again. You're missing. But things will pick up again; we are convinced of that. Not only off the pitch, but also on it. The current footballing situation is an additional challenge for us, because we all hoped for more from the first half of the season, but everyone at RB Leipzig will give everything to make it better in the second half of the season.
We've secured European football for the new year and are still going in the DFB-Pokal, while there is not much separating many clubs in the Bundesliga table: a lot is still possible. For that, we need maximum power and your support - and we feel it every day.
Celebrating success is one thing. Overcoming crises is another. That can only be done together.
We wish you - despite all the circumstances - a happy and peaceful Christmas. Take time for each other and take time to relax and recharge your batteries.
Happy new year. See you in 2022!
