"We win as a team and we lose as a team"
Konrad Laimer, Péter Gulácsi, Willi Orbán and Domenico Tedesco on the 3-2 defeat in Munich
Konrad Laimer:
- "We had enough chances to score another goal today. In addition to that, we gifted them two. Then it becomes even more difficult to win here. We did some things well and other things not so well. That’s how you lose against Bayern. When you give a team like them the ball 20 metres in front of your own goal, you’re obviously making it too easy for them. But when you’re playing out from the back with risks, that can happen. But that’s not a blame. We win as a team and we lose as a team.
With the way he wants to play football, our coach has brought stability. That’s given us a boost. We’re better in games and have the ball moving around better. However, there is still a lot of work for us to do this season. We want to win more in the upcoming weeks and get back into the Champions League spots."
Domenico Tedesco:
- "It was a good game, but it’s tough that we conceded two goals so easily. With their third goal we were trying to play it too quickly and it didn’t work. We did well overall and showed some quality.
I haven’t done anything in particular with André Silva. Massimiliano Allegri once said to me, 'A good coach sometimes just lets things ride out too. Joking aside, sometimes a coach doesn’t need to tell a player where to position themselves or behave in the box.
Whether or not we have the potential to chase Bayern in the future is something that others can decide. We're trying to be focused and keep working hard. We still have some important games ahead of us."
Péter Gulácsi:
- "We wanted to have a lot of the ball and for that we needed to take risks. We knew that we would make it hard for ourselves if we just cleared the ball from the back and then ran after it. We tried to keep possession and in doing so made a couple of mistakes. That gets punished against a team like Bayern. We had our chances and came very close to coming away with something. In our situation, that’s definitely frustrating.
Everything is easier with hindsight. It would probably have been better if I had played a long ball. We wanted to be active and play out from the back. That didn't work out well with the goal that we conceded. We were also very unlucky with the deflection that resulted in a goal.
Manuel Neuer did brilliantly on two occasions and prevented us from equalising.."
Willi Orban:
- "We’re lacking a bit of efficiency in the final third. Both teams had good chances, but Bayern took one more chance than us. With a little more courage, we could have done better; Bayern were there for the taking today. We had a good phase at the beginning of the second half, so it makes it even more frustrating to have conceded the the third goal.
The start of this year gives us hope that we can get into the Champions League. We won the first four games and we can build on today's performance. We know we are going well. We have to continue on our way and we’re optimistic.
André works hard every day and is showing more and more in the Bundesliga the quality that he has. He has already proven that with Frankfurt, and he shows it in training: he’ll still bring us a lot more joy.
Our game is more complete and controlled now. We have more possession and create more chances. We’re fresher and more effective in our press; we’re winning more balls. Now it's all about the details; that we create chances and convert them even better. We want to play the final passes better and score more goals.
I am satisfied with my season on a personal note; there has been more consistency.."
