RB Leipzig defeated 3-2 by FC Bayern Munich
Silva and Nkunku score for RBL | Müller, Lewandowski and a Gvardiol own goal give Bayern the win
RB Leipzig visited FC Bayern Munich in the highlight of Matchday 21 in the Bundesliga. A thrilling game ended with the league leaders taking all three points in a 3-2 win. André Silva (27’) and Christopher Nkunku (53’) levelled on two occasions for Domenico Tedesco’s side, but the hosts went ahead three times through Thomas Müller (12’), Robert Lewandowski (44’) and an own goal from Joško Gvardiol (58’) to give Bayern the win.
Both teams looked to attack from the first minute. Serge Gnabry's blocked shot was the first real chance (4’), before Dani Olmo hit the side netting six minutes later on his return to the starting XI after 140 days. Bayern went ahead in the 12th minute, when Thomas Müller tapped in a rebound after Péter Gulácsi’s parried a Robert Lewandowski shot. RBL reacted in the right way and Dani saw two more chances come his way (16’, 18’), but it was André Silva who found the back of the net, finishing from close range from Konrad Laimer's shot-pass (27’). The two sides continued to trade punches and Müller had the ball in the back of the net again in the 36th minute, but the goal was ruled out due to a foul from Lewandowksi. Bayern’s number 9 then headed in a Kingsley Coman cross shortly after to give his side a 2-1 lead at the break (44’).
The second half was a similar picture. Angeliño went close in the 50th minute, then Christopher Nkunku finished after a fantastic ball from Laimer to level for the second time (53’). Unfortunately, the hosts struck back after five minutes. Gnabry received the ball on the right and looked to play back inside. His cross was deflected by a sliding Joško Gvardiol and past Gulácsi to replenish the lead (58’).
The defeat leaves the Red Bulls in seventh place, three points behind the Champions League places.
