Big victory! RB Leipzig defeat Borussia Dortmund 4-1
RB Leipzig with 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund | Laimer scores brace in first half, Nkunku and Olmo net after the break | Henrichs (stomach bug) and Adams (thigh) not in matchday squad
What a start to MEGApril! The Red Bulls pick up three points on matchday 28 with a 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund and maintain on course for the goal of Champions League qualification.
Domenico Tedesco’s team were secure in defence and clinical in attack and their strong first-half performance was rewarded. Two goals from Konrad Laimer (21, 30) saw them head into the break with a 2-0 lead.
The second half was a similar story. Leipzig remained focused after the break and Laimer and Nkunku linked up again. After Christo provided the assist for Konni in the first half, this time Laimer returned the favour. The midfielder backheeled to Christo on the edge of the area in the 57th minute, and his left-footed first-time strike flew past Gregor Kobel and into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead. There was late action at both ends in the final stages. Donyell Malen pulled one back in the 84th minute before Dani Olmo rounded things off with a shot from outside the area which crashed in off the underside of the crossbar to give RBL a 4-1 win in Dortmund.
