"That wasn't enough"
Head coach Domenico Tedesco and players Péter Gulácsi, Marcel Halstenberg and Willi Orban on the defeat in Gladbach.
Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 RB Leipzig
Domenico Tedesco:
- "In the first half we didn't have any of the things that you need for a game like this – things like mentality and physicality. We couldn’t enforce ourselves.
It was a difficult first half. Two players received yellow cards relatively early on and we had to react because there was a risk that either Gvardiol or Simakan would be sent off.
We have two games left in the league now. We’ll give our all and try to win both of them. Unfortunately, qualification for the Champions League is no longer in our hands. So we’ll just have to see how things turn out in the end.
We managed to win the first leg of the Europa League semi-final. It was a very tough game and we know that it’s not going to be any easier at Ibrox, but rather the opposite. It will be a different game to today’s game. We’ll focus on that from Tuesday."
Péter Gulácsi:
- "Our first half was really poor and we didn’t get into the game at all. We lacked intensity and lost possession a lot. Gladbach did really well and you could see their quality. If you let them play, they can be really dangerous. That was the mistake we made today. We played into their hands and made it too easy for them too often.
In the second half, we were significantly better and applied pressure, but didn’t manage to get the equaliser. The 3-1 defeat is very disappointing.
We have to put the game behind us now and focus fully on Thursday. We’ve lost two Bundesliga games in a row, it’s not easy.
Our aims are high and we need points to achieve them. We have to deliver a better performance against Rangers.."
Marcel Halstenberg:
- "We were sluggish, weren’t intense enough and switched off at the goals. That’s how you lose a game.
We’ve fallen behind in the race for the Champions League. There are two matchdays left in the Bundesliga. We absolutely have to win them, otherwise things won’t look too good for us.
Of course, the past few weeks have been very intense for us. But it’s nice to have a game very three days. I can’t explain what happened today, because we absolutely want to be playing Champions League football next season and at the same time want to reach the final of the Europa League on Thursday. Maybe it's just a question of out mindset; something was missing today. We were also lacking that little bit of luck.
It will be a bit difficult to sleep tonight, but we have to put the game behind us as soon as possible, because we want to win on Thursday."
Willi Orbán:
- "We didn't do a lot of the things that we set out to do before the game. Gladbach played well and were the better side especially in the first half. We didn't do well.
We were too hectic when trying to get the ball in the box and we wanted to do too much. We had the right intentions but you have to manage the situation better, especially when you have a man advantage. We weren't mature enough there.
We were very unfortunate in that game. We don’t have a lot of games left now and we’ve missed out on three points in the race for the Champions League places.
Of course it's a disappointing result for us. We have to regroup and analyse what we didn't do well today. Then it's about going into the final two games optimistically and, if possible, clinching a Champions League place!"
