1-1 draw with Ajax
Tough test against Dutch giants | 820 watch on at the SV Grödig stadium | Dušan Tadić puts Ajax 1-0 up at half-time | Christopher Nkunku equalises after the break | RBL training camp draws to a close
Before the game, the players, staff and spectators paid their respects to Ajax youngster Noah Gesser, who sadly passed away last night. RB Leipzig offer our sincerest condolences for this tragedy and wish strength to his family, friends and everyone at Ajax.
Honours even in final game of camp
After a gruelling few days’ training, there were some noticeably heavy legs in the RB Leipzig team at times. The reigning Eredivisie champions got off to a flyer, with Dušan Tadić finding himself free in front of Péter Gulácsi in just the fourth minute. The Serb didn’t let the opportunity pass him by and shot the Amsterdammers into the lead in front of 820 gathered spectators. A large part of the early running took place in midfield with most Leipzig attacks being snuffed out as they reached the edge of the box. The only real opportunity of note fell to Alexander Sørloth (15’) after a set-piece.
Jesse Marsch sent out an unchanged side for the second half, and the consistency paid off as the lads took control of the early going. Christopher Nkunku took the first chance that came his way, bending a shot around Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg to level the score at 1-1 (54’). The rest of the match played out without any further goals to bring an end to our time in Saalfelden.
